I am thinking of any single tracks that are shared with bikes. It's not that I have a problem, I think it will just make sharing the space easier.

In mixed use environments I agree, but in MTB specific singletrack especially with poor visibility (dense tree/fynbos growth etc.), etc. it's probably not a good idea, and not always possible to ring that bell.

My bell:

Also makes other bikers feel inferior, due to the fact that they cant greet me back when I greet them with a smile and a ring-ring.

have to admit, ringing it more than I should... maybe also because I don't have shifters to entertain my thumbs

Problem with a std bell like that is that the bell will inadvertently implode or explode, pending the bell construction.... either way the universe will stand still for a millisecond when this happens

I use the 120 db Zound air horn on my bikes, and many of my mates have converted.

I get to meet a lot of people because of it - I have to go back and apologise for frightening the wits out of them.

One of our commuters has this on his bike and it sure does work well!

I've noticed that a lot of road runners seem to think its fine running in the road into oncoming traffic. What's with that?

much better to see the taxi before it hits you than when it smashes you from behind...

so yes, a lot of (smart) runners do it and it is fine

I find it easier than running backwards while watching traffic, I fall less as well

If runners are passing you on singletrack you're doing it wrong...

Back on topic, are there any decent bells out there? I've seen the Spurcycle one, but it's moerse expensive and mail order only, and most of the locally available ones are made of cheese. I'd love to stock a few, but I refuse to sell poo.

Agreed, can someone find me something I cannot break?

FYI, going to call you soon, I've bust my post again.

Pedestrians are supposed to walk (run) facing traffic. It's in the highway code and road traffic act, among others. It makes sense, since pedestrians are slow moving, generally more agile than other traffic and don't have rearview mirrors.

I have seen some pedestrian that can't even see past their own rear end and would benefit from mirrors.
