Very convenient dont you think....

Well then don't be the poster boys for zero tolerance...it makes you seem hypocritical

IMO, he did the right thing in accordance with the rules laid down by UCI and what he knew at the time. Storm in a tea cup, its not as if he applied for TUE for EPO ...

He got a TUE for prednisone for a chest infection at the Tour of Romandie. In 6 years he has applied for 2 TUE's - so I think its far removed from "...hiding behind a whole bunch of listed drugs ..."

When did Froone apply for the TUE for the inhaler? . Cause if he has been a sufferer since childhood that would mean he applied for it a very long time ago.

Sure and agreed he played by the UCI rules....no issue with that. The issue at hand here is that SKY's policies are not worth anything. They break their rules when they want to / need to. PK highlighted it.

But on the TUE thing...I know the rules state it acceptable to race with one...I personally think you are not the best athlete if you need it to compete...if you need it to get better to be able to race again without them, that is a different story, I am not even talking about the chronic TUE's

There seems to be some confusion whether it was SKY rule or policy ... if it was a rule / policy why wasn't it well known or was it just something Brailsford said to Walsh in passing ...

Seems clear that he needed the TUE to get better. And he's not on chronic TUE's all the time.

Thats just it, he is still at a disadvantage even when using an asthma pump compared to someone at the same level but who is100% healthy. As far as i know using an asthma pump will not turn an asthma sufferer (or even a non sufferer) into a supercharged machine that will out perform a "normal" fit person.

The world is full of know it all cycnics (not meaning you rouxtjie - but rather this @digger twat) who have nothing better to do than annalyize every word and then stand on their soap box shouting what ever *** it takes to increase the number of hits on their blog or twit page.

You are allowed to use an inhaler without a TUE, therefore he is limited to 16 sprays within a 24 hour period.

rule or policy doesnt matter....they created the hype, but can't deliver when the chips are down. And no he needed his inhaler to race, the same inhaler that needed a TUE, not to get better

See below from the interview

CF: I take a protein drink, fish oils, energizer greens – a CMP vegetable drink -nothing out of the ordinary. I take Loratadine every day, an anti-histamine that helps me with skin reactions to sun creams and the rubbish that seems to flare up my skin. I take my inhaler every day.

PK: Is that Ventolin?

CF: Ventolin only if I’ve got effort. Fluticasone is a daily one, more a preventative, so I take two sprays.

PK: And it was Ventolin you used in the Dauphine?

CF: Yeah, so that was on the bike before a big effort.

PK: But is that using the inhaler to boost your performance? You’re taking it before a big effort, not because you . . .

CF: I eat breakfast before a long race. Is that not doing something to boost my performance? If I don’t eat I won’t have any energy; if I don’t have my inhaler before a really big effort I’m probably not going to be able to breathe very well. I know I’m not going to be able to breathe very well.

Many thanks. It's odd that his asthma wasn't public knowledge. . Would've been a real PR draw card had it been.. specially for people that think if you have asthma you are limited in what you do.. kinda like Jonty and the epilepsy, and even Ryk Neethling and his asthma mist people knew about their conditions.

Definitely the feeling I get.

True Thuggy, thanks for this thread though, I would have totally missed all this if you never started it.

My take on the entire fiasco.

Chris like many of us seems to have immense trust in his woman, and like many of us will get irritated by things they say and do, but we choose to glance over it because of love for that person.

She does suffer from a bit of foot in mouth, does it make her a bad person ?

No.

She has immense passion and obviously great admiration for her man, but she needs to learn that sometimes that SILENCE IS GOLDEN.

Now this interview .

I think Chris went in to it with a last ditch attempt to hopefully restore as to what he might have thought was a damaged reputation because of the TUE business.

Personally I would have taken management advice and let them deal with it.

I still stand by the fact that the Chris I knew was a very relaxed individual with fantastically good manners and respect for people all round.

He even came out to the one 24 hour at night to second me and encourage me through the race, he is a loveable and humorous guy and if he says that he trained harder than most , I can assure anyone that he is not mincing his words there.

I sincerely hope that the current Chris is still the same Chris that everyone loved and adored and that money and fame didn't change him too much.

My boet interviewed him recently, and says he's as humble as he was back when Kev saw him at his first Tour.

I hear you swiss, but those are the genes that were dealt to him...a legal TUE will alter the way his body naturally functions without it when it gets stressed. Is that fair to the athlete that got dealt the better genes ie the better athlete that doesnt need medicine to open his lungs.

I hope not, much prefer it the way it is...all natural emotions and not a canned production from some hired professional. Sure they (MC) may have made some mistakes and got emotional but at the end of the day its kind of nice to see the real human side of things.

this sports will never be 100% clean, they will always find a way.

Like all sports. There are always cheats. Not just drug related. Cycling is just higher profile because they do something about it and name and shame their cheats. Other sports hardly test and then hide results. I don't condone drugs, just hate the finger pointing at cycling while other sports do nothing.

Some of the meds used in inhalers are not banned, the one he needed did have a restricted substance, hence the TUE.
