I do feel your pain.. And hope you get this sorted.. Soon

The solution is in fact quite simple..

You are based in Stellenbosch....

Omnico is based in Landsdowne.....

You've been ranting for more than 1hr 20 min about this...

In that time you could have been back with a new frame...already?

If you take your frame with, .. No pictures needed? Quite simple really...

Why all the slander... ?

Although not applicable in Roux's case you do raise a good question, people often ride a size down for better handling, lower weight etc... its possible that a small frame isn't meant for for a 6'6" juggernaut especially some of the lightweight brands.

I don't think it works like that. I think the manufacturers are aware that there alot of short heavyweight people. I've seen 5'2" people weighing 95kg, and 6'5" people weighing 80kg.

But, in anycase, a small or large of the same model will be made of the same material, therefore, technically the small would be stronger because the tubing is shorter. Welding is welding, whether on small or large.

ps - I've sucked all of the above out of my logical thumb - I'm no engineer.

Goodluck with you claim.

what happens if you are an unassuming newbie and the cycle shop sells you a frame too small for you ... where would the fault lie then?

Not up to the OP to drive around chasing guys for a faulty product.

What happens if the OP lives 4hrs away from the distributor?

Hell I work 30min away from Omnico, but given my work circumstances would never be able to simply up and go to them during the week!

Also had hassles with 2 of the original 26" carbon Zaskars getting "clear coat" cracks. Being carbon I didn't trust this, took a looong time to get the 3rd frame from them via the LBS but still going strong. Hope you come right.

OP said Omnico already have the frame.

They want a picture of the frame with components on it.

That is what is not making sense.

3 frames in 18 months, that says something. I also dont get the picture thing.

Either you unlucky to get the weak frames in the batch or you doing some serious downhill with it.

Bru, I would be pretty dik by now.

I would ask for the refund, you might just get another lemon

I really was k#k gatvol when I heard the news that the 3rd frame cracked. That is why it was not hard for me to take the plunge and go for an entry level Giant : http://www.thehubsa....t-revel-0-29er/

Since then Omnico had all the time in the world to check out the bike at the LBS but instead they decided to play hardball and try the first and easiest way to dodge the claim. I actually have an invoice that states "GT KARAKORAM UPGRADE TO ZASKAR FRAME R4 849.00" - yes that's right - FRAME - I paid to upgrade the frame and when it broke I returned the FRAME. When it broke again, you guessed it, I returned the FRAME.

Omnico has made up its mind, from their side they must have seen too many claims om GT frames and now try to dodge them. From my side I lost R4k and a bicycle. I now ride Giant and will make it my mission to deter as many people as possible from using Omnico products.

Not cool. If thats their final answer I would take it up with GT directly. The least they can do is properly assess the frame.

Yes it is the same LBS that I have been using for years. They said without pictures of the bike on its own, as in me not riding it, they can't help me. That just seems wrong, is there anything I can apart from tarnishing Omnico in every way possible?

Write a letter to ride magazine and get it published

I think I will let GT know about this. I have a lot of respect for them and their bikes sure did put a smile on my face, but in the end I need something that will last and it seems currently they have issues with their products. I am not a serious rider that puts a lot of stress on a bike, however I do use it on an almost daily basis.

Wrote an email to the guy that seems to be in charge at Omnico and explained my frustration and plan of action to him. Will see how he takes to it and from there I can plan what is next. All I want is for them to refund the R4k I paid to upgrade from a Karakoram frame to a Zaskar.

I doubt that it will get sorted so I am starting to make peace with the fact that this will have to be one very expensive lesson for me.

Obviously I have informed Omnico about how I feel and what I plan to do (spread the word). They are playing dumb saying they have not made up their minds and will do so once they see the complete bike - which they know is impossible since I built up a new bike using parts from the cracked frame.
