I was also concerned about cholesterol in fact i didn't just check my cholesterol (numbers in op) but all the other markers too and did a heart scan. Such was my suspicion of HFLC but all improved for me.

One post stated that my success is owing to a reduction in calories but the reducing of my sugar and simple carbs intake, is what curtailed my appetite.

I also agree with the post that said the first couple of weeks is tough...

Funny enough i eat all the stuff that you exempted yourself from, while I’m not pooh paah’ing the whole concept what I really would like to know as someone who grew up eating all the simple carbs stuff like cereal, oats, breads, potato, pasta, wheat, sweets etc…. did i mention i'm a massive chocolate lover.....

What the hell do you have for breakfast every day, I’m asking about breakfast mainly because its usually the most time crunched meal of the day i.e. less time to faf around cooking stuff and much easier to eat out of the box…

If I am in a rush, I put together a quick "fat shake" which can consist of a combo of double cream yoghurt, coconut milk, butter, cream, marscapone cheese, half a banana (good source of potassium), flaxseed oil (omega-3s), blueberries. I then whizz it all up with a stick blender.

Yeah, I also have a quick shake option - double cream yoghurt, banana, full cream milk, and a teaspoon of cocoa and instant coffee. Might not be 100% banting, but it is yummy!!

Edit: there is also a porridge that is made from tons of nuts blended with cream and some other flavourants, can become a bit rich, but also very good!!

Yup, me too, I eat it all, and drink a few beers, and I have at least one glass of wine every night, and my cholesterol is 3.9. No statins, and I have weighed the same since I was in the army over 40 years ago, 73 / 74 Kgs so there is clearly also a flip side to this diet as well.

As far as I am concerned you just need to balance what goes in food wise with what goes out energy wise, changing either of those reference points will result in a change of weight either up or down.

I am 1.73m and weighing 93kg. Black guy not the best cyclist around but working hard to improve my times. My lipids are within normal range but am hypertensive on co- diovan. Ho does one balance high protein high fat diet with reduced sodium intake which will drive my blood pressure up. Do the same diets like the Tim.Noakes one work on black people as little research is done based on us?

I'm also a Middle aged man started cycling again in 2012 did my first 94.7 (Given a entry by friends at a braai) 115Kg and a loan MTB. Finished in 6H15. Then I got myself a bike and started to do races. My weight slowly came down and my fitness level were better. End of 2013 my weight were 109Kg and I was getting faster and pushing harder, then my real Problems started "Cramps". https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/132376-statins-and-cramps/ My cholesterol were very low "total were 2.9" Doctor kept me on statins took me of High blood pressure tabs. Then I started to investigate the cramps and concluded that it was the statins. Taken my self of statins end of October 2013. For the first time I dropped 4Kg down to 105Kg without changing my diet. Al the reading on statins also got me to LCHF. In April I finally convinced myself that HFLC was healthy and bought The real meal revolution. I'm now 95KG after 2 months Banting. I can now train harder and recover faster. Goal weight is 80 kg I'm 1,80m so 15 to go before the 94.7

You'll need to do a bit of reading. Easiest option is probably to get The Real Meal Revolution and read the stuff Noakes wrote in the back - will answer most of your questions.

Is High Fat, Med Protein, Low Carb. Low Carb is the most important part. If you eat LC, sodium is excreted and insufficient sodium becomes the issue. There is a lot of info in the LCHF thread (link is in the second post of this thread) if you take the time to read it from the beginning. I would think that there is no reason to think that it shouldn't work for black people - our metabolisms are not different.

For during the week when I don't have much time I typically have one of two meals for breakfast.

1. I heat up some frozen mince (cooked the way you like it) which I made over the weekend + a bowl of plain double cream yoghurt + a serving of fruit OR

2. 1 banana, 1 apple/pear/pawpaw, some berries, a few spoons of plain double cream yoghurt, two raw eggs - place in a blender and drink. It's very quick to make, tastes good and contains all I need.

For something a little different try a Bullet Proof Coffee if you have time http://www.bulletproofexec.com/bulletproof-coffee-recipe/

Did the my first Karoo to Coast that year in 5:59:36 :w00t:. Last year I did it in 4;31;10  :clap:My first Argus road in 3:46.

Only drink Catle light now and then. Weight still down. Buy the way I eat Chocolates like it is going out of fashion. Cant take the FAT In my Diet.

is the tim noakes diet specifically for people who want to lose weight only or for everyone as a healthy eating plan? what if you are not overweight is this diet and eating plan still recommended?

I've been the same weight as an adult for the past 25 years. I follow this diet in moderation (unless I'm racing in which case I eat HFHC) purely from a health perspective and feel better for it.
