So I was wondering who has one and what they think of them. Issues like battery life, can you actually sleep with it on? link to applications etc.

Value for money?

Any better than a Suunto Ambit?

I am thinking of getting one.

The best monitors are the type used in the UK. The police strap it around your ankle and you can't leave your village. ASBO's are the way to go.

ASBO = anti social behavioural order

Activity Monitor? Heart rate Monitor?

It really depends on what you want to do.

I have been using my Suunto Quest as a day-to-day watch. The strap is now breaking after 18 months which is probably not a bad lifetime for the strap, but I suspect if I did not use it as a day-to-day watch that it would have lasted forever. The battery lasted for about 9 months, but I did use the HR regularly (probably clocked about 150 hours worth of monitoring on it).

Have you looked at the Garmin Fenix2? I would prefer the Ambit2 (looks better), but the Fenix2 is a bit cheaper and have some really nice features like Bluetooth and ANT+ (meaning that you can connect it to your phone to upload workouts and also use all the current ANT+ Sensors). It also includes a fabric/velcro strap.

Note that the Ambit3 will be released some time soon, they have changed this model to use Bluetooth only (no more ANT+).

I am sorry but I cannot help to think of a monitor as something like this; strap it to your back then it is wearable

On a more serious note; it all depend what you want to use it for..cycling, running, multisport, swimming?

It seems to me that this can now be divided into 2 'categories' if you so wish:-

1) Actual fitness monitors used during exercise - Polar/Garmin etc.

2) Them more 'lifestyle' orientated ones worn all day and tell how many steps you took, calories burnt, how long you slept etc. - Fitbit, Polar Loop and a host of others

So which would it be?

The new Polar is an exceptional unit, feel free to contact me if you need any more info.

I would also like to hear about this polar watch- which model? I'm actually sitting with a booklet of polar watches next to me. The 2 most viable options feature-wise look like either the RS800CX (multisports) or the CS600X (cycling, this one has cadence whilst the other doesn't)
