If you saw the butt slapping thread, you would understand. I fear he is a wilful contrarian.

Yes.. Having an opinion that is not the same as the masses of this forum is not allowed and frowned upon..

I hate violence and said so and people like you seem to support wanton violence..

Shame on me for having a difference of opinion

These are my observations..

Unlike you I don't need prozac and can handle reality..

And I'm not your wife so I don't have to fake anything

So just for you

I woke up at 6 had a shake and oats for breakfast.. Walked down to the start and joined my group.. Took things easy up. The first Hill and enjoyed Wynberg Hill... Etc etc

I had a great ride and had fun.. And will be there next year.. It was all fantastic and not a single problem was experienced at all [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2]

Bash away dude, I don't do internet fights! You don't know me or my life from soap, so I'll excuse your ignorance. In the real world I genuinely hope you have a handle on stuff, cos your forum persona seems pretty bitter and highly focussed on being a serial whinger!

Kudos to you for making the most of the experience nonetheless!

I've come a long way ...

Did my first Argus in 2007, and started right at the back in one of the last unseeded groups. There had been a bad crash on Hospital Bend, so we were further delayed and eventually set off at about 11h30. Came in in about 5 hours 20 minutes - the officials were packing up. Was staying in Stellenbosch, and only got back to the hotel (after the few obligatory beers) so late I had to beg the kitchen to open for me for something to eat (nearly missed dinner).

This year, was done by 08h30 and had breakfast at the hotel before my wife woke up!!!

Don't say the EVO got scratched?!

(Concerned fan)

Damaged derailleur but the Evo is fine otherwise thanks Dale.

I had to ride the final 15km (incl the two climbs) in 53-21 gear. Some quality grinding right there ;)

Have been considering doing a virtual race report, considering I had a totally different view and take on events:

05:30 - alarm sounds, I need to get up. Ignore the sound and turn over for another few Zzz's.

06:23 - cr@p, I missed the start of the race. It's okay, decoder was on autotune, so I can rewind to the start (which I never got round to doing).

06:37 - on my bike, Cycleops trainer set to INTERVAL, tablet loaded with the route, fan plugged in but not switched on. TV on channel 206 and I'm ready to go. The Elites were already halfway down the blue route - Kevin Evens having a go of the front. Camera focused on Cav.

06:52 - warm up complete. It's going to be hotter than I thought - time to fetch a towel a bottle, switch the head wind on and change the trainer setting to ROAD.

06:57 - 47Km virtual training route, here I come. It's not everyday that you get to watch the pro's LIVE on TV, and ride the same route (well, a virtual route).
About 07:16, I think - Such a bad camera angle - the sun directly in the line of sight at the finish. A photographer's nightmare (over exposed background).

07:36 - End of the blue route, turn right and then head back to the start. How hard could this be?

Somewhere inbetween, I'm cheering Lisa Olivier on to stay away, only for her to be caught a few K's out.

edit: Supersport interviews Cav, but I can't hear a thing - the remote is on the coffee table (about 2m away) and there's no way I'm stopping. Pity, because I think he's one of the better voices to listen to after a race (IMO).

08:17 - finished, that was harder than I though it would be... 1:20 for the 46Km + 12 mins of warm up on the indoor trainer. Finished with 327W normalised power.

08:32 - shower done, about to get in car with family for breakfast. They're happy (I'm going out with them at the time we agreed), I'm happy - I got an awesome workout on the IDT.

Pro's

Cheap, affordable, no travelling required, 90 mins from bed to shower with ride in between, no risk of crashing.

Cons

Missed the whole Argus CTCT vibe. No time, no medal, no goodie bag, no war stories to share from what looked like an awesome day out.

Will I consider doing the actual ride in the future? Probably not.

edit: photo taken after I had finished (aircon was only used a stand for the tablet).

HAHA nice one Gerald!

Honestly, I'd say if you are a cyclist looking to do a scenic mass participation funride, go Argus in Cape Town, however if you are looking at doing a tough mass participation racing event, nowadays the 947 is the one to do.

Spent to whole day at the top of Wynberg hill.Great to see all the pro's ,ladies etc.all the way down to the last straglers

Awesome day out.

Humbled by some die hard cyclists that I saw .One guy had his left leg in a cast and was pedaling with only his right leg.One elderly gent only had 1 arm and getting ready for a nice fast decent to Constantia. One tandem had a blind stoker and to all the disabled guys and girls in the buggies.RESPECT!!!

Could not believe how friendly all the cyclists were.Even thanking us for cheering

(Apologies to all for hijack)

Sorry, bud, wrong person. I have never hurt anyone in my life, except my brother, and the only people I have ever wanted to smack have all, unsurprisingly, been at Newlands watching rugby. But then noone has ever slapped my girlfriend's butt.

So, no I do not support violence in any way.

But taking a contrary view that says it's 'just a butt slap' is worse than condoning violence. One of these is a power-play abuse of an innocent victim, and the other an overreaction, but, atleast, a rebalanced of the power dynamic, and a crude rectification of a bigger problem . But only in my opinion.

Have a lovely day in Happy Town.

I know it's popularly known as the funride world champs but I also think Argus can go towards something of a South African amateur champs because most people go there. I get a seeding higher up on the alphabet soup in the 94.7 than Argus. I believe that to be cause more of the better riders do Argus. So if you want to measure yourself against the best in SA (whatever group you get seeded), you have to do Argus.

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but one mildly amusing side effect of shortening the route is that you now only get 3000 Vitality points for completing an outdoor event.

That's not a fair comparison as the 947 has more and smaller groups... For example, at the Argus, VA, VB, VC and 1A group all start and crash together in one combined group. At 947, those groups would start separately as VA, VB, VC, VD, VE, A and B.

Honestly I think I'll rather race the Stellenbosch tour next year rather than the Argus.
