Had 3 orders which came in since Dec last year.

1st took 4 weeks (expected as it was over the silly season: skeleton staff, holidays etc.)

2nd took 3 weeks

3rd took 2 weeks

Maybe I was just very lucky

Question:

I notice some people collect from the JIMC - how does it work?
Do you just rock up, give them your reference number and hope for the best?

I have a parcel from Germany that shows arrival in SA, but nothing further on the SAPO tracking website. I have contacted the supplier in Germany to place my second order on hold, or cancel (if they can't send via courier).
edit: Too late, just got the notification that it has shipped out (now to hold thumbs)

You rock up, stand in line for a few hours, give them your tracking number and hold thumbs it hasn't been dispatched for delivery...

Will chance my luck tomorrow - see if I can collect parcel number 1.
Parcel number 2 picked up this morning.
Order number 3 and 4 - cancelled until I get parcel number 1 and 2.
Plan B will cost me extra, but I'll have a chance of receiving parcel number 3 and 4.

so the advice is to gamble and try my luck having it posted?

Gerald, get there before they open, you will be first in line and they can take up to 45 mins to "find" your item, or to tell you its been waiting at your local PO for a week.

All notifications from the SAPO are redundant it seems, no body there takes the time to do any checking or filing etc.... its just tooooo much work.

Gamble is the right word, and a personal decision only you can make.

I've ordered from Amazon, Ebay and CRC with the free delivery service. Each time the parcels arrived within 18-20 days with no hassle (electronic goods, bike components, , tablet accessories, DVD's, etc.). I've used the DHL option from CRC once, because the extra cost wasn't too high and I was in a rush.

This time I ordered from a company that doesn't offer the courier option - and I'm reluctant to do it for a third time. Clearly I was too eager to get the second shipment that I didn't wait for the first one to arrive in my hands. For the extra cost, I may decide to go with CRC for my new build components, which will only start in June/July when the frameset is available (locally purchased, thankfully).

My problem is that this order is for my existing bike (new chain, cassette, bar tape, saddle, cleats and BB), which I'm hoping to change asap - the existing bike is crying outfor some TLC, and I've phaffed for long enough.

I ordered late Jan (dispatched the 26th). Its been 8.5 weeks. Thinks I'm going to go for the "lost order" from CRC...

I ordered new handlebars on Thursday night (late) from CRC - selected the DHL option.

Just received confirmation that it will be delivered, to me, tomorrow - had to pay the VAT today.

The status of my (non-cycling) parcel at JIMC shows the following:

3/20/2015 3:30 PM Unsuccessful delivery ZA37748 Addressee has P.O. Box/Addressee advised to pick up the item

I think I'll wait for the second parcel to arrive on Thursday, as I'm sure it will also be the same. Then I'll pick a day to go sit in the queue (early). As for them advising me... perhaps I'll get a notification (one day).

Seems every time I place an order from over the seas the bloody post office goes on strike.

Maybe they just always on strike

Waiting for 2 orders.

One from UK and the other from Taiwan.

I've never had a problem with the PO.

Even last year when they were on strike for a couple of months I still received my stuff, just had to wait.

I think they on strike more than they not. Seems like we just have to wait wait wait.

I ordered some lights off Alibaba and again made the mistake of not checking shipping. So it came in via Postal which normally worked beautifully.....

Need less to say i have no goods since December and no notifications.

My buyer insurance expires in 10 days so i am forced to open a dispute and get a refund.

Man what a cock up.

It is never going to come right again. Its too much of a mess right now to ever sort it out.
