Just keep in mind that you can do something about it..people that sell stuff and dont declare when something is faulty can be held liable..dont just leave it, do something about it..

Also when I buy something in future, I will pay 50% of the selling price, when the goods are delivered I will inspect and if it is in the condition that was stated I will pay the balance..

Unfortunately for me cannot remember the fellow hubbers name that nailed me on this deal! This however will teach me not to trust people!

I bought a SRAM Groupset from a fellow hubber for a great price as I am busy building a mtb for CHOC Cows to raise money for children with Cancer.

He dropped his price from R2500 to R2000 for me as the bike is being built for charity.

Contact me i have some SRAM shifters and things you can have. No RD unforunately, but front shiters and FD as well as likely sm

Got the frame back from spray paint and start building my beloved Cow!

And guess what..?

The rear deraileur does not work aswell as the front derailer! Ok.. so I take it to my LBS to check it out.. maybe I am installing it wrong!

My LBS tells me that the rear deraileur is beyond repair and the front deraileur is fine but the shifter is stuffed.

Bottom line is I bought this SRAM crap about 5weeks ago and because the carbon sprayjob took longer only wanted to install now just to realise I have been ripped off!

Would love to name and shame but cannot find the asses details...

Would love if he can contact me to talk about this.. Probably wont hear from him..

``i have some SRAM shifters for you - i am a Shimano man so you can have them if its genuinely for charity

Good Stuff. I recently donated all my spares to the Jakaranda Childrens Home. Otherwise I would have contributed

I also had a bad experience as a result of a hubbers dishonesty and my own stupidity.

I bought a Giant Anthem about 3 months ago. This was my first MTB and I did not know anything about bikes. I asked the following questions and got these answers:

Me: How old is the bike?

Seller: Ive had it for about two years and the guy before me for about a year.

The truth: The bike turned out to be a 2007 model!

Me: Are the shocks and components fine and have they been serviced?

Seller: Bike was serviced at the beginning of the year and everything was checked.

The Truth: The rear shock leaks air and the front leaks oil. Brakes were a mis-matched pair and had to be replaced. The rear free wheel body was completely shot, plus the hubs were no-name 24 hole hubs with no replacement components available. Thus a new wheel set had to be bought. The shifters are quite stiff and will probably have to be replaced.

I've fixed most of the problems and its probably too late to complain now. But I'm still considering emailing the guy to give him piece of my mind.

Do I have any other options?

You definitely speak to the guy before coming on here. If you're buying voetstoots you need to do your homework up front. If you don't know about mountain bikes, take someone who does or use an lbs.

School fees.

I get that you should know, but in reality nobody knows everything. And sometimes you don't know if something is not working until putting it on your bike.

For me the (utopian) Hub should be a community where you don't get sellers advertising falsely, e.g. derailleur doesn't work, but not stating it. That's for the Gumtrees, etc. And that's why I like comments in the classifieds for people that don't know.

Just to clear up a few things.

The Components was delivered to my cousin by the seller in Bryanston.

My cousin checked the components and phoned me to tell me they look neat!

I received it from my cousin about two weeks after the sale.

I checked it and definately it looked very little used. (Happy me)

I received my Choc Cow (4weeks after sale).

I started building the Cow. Working man so it took me about 4 days..

Started setting up the gears and breaks and then realised what was wrong!

This morning I went in to the office and scrolled through emails and got the chaps Email address.

I did send him an email explaining my predicament.

waiting for his reply.

I am not angry, just dissapointed that there is such people out there.

My badluck. I bought a bargain that was not a bargain.

I just feel that we have the right to say something about it if something like this happens.

If I do not get a reply from him by Tomorrow afternoon then I will definately put his details up for everyone to take note!!

Just wondering what was actually wrong with the shifter and dérailleur, worn out or broken perhaps? I would imagine a pic to show it would help for others to perhaps know what to look out for .....

Its a tough one, there are always bad apples.

My first roadie I built from components bought on the hub, they were all from different sellers, from the frame right through to each component and even the helmet.

Maybe I was just lucky that everything was in perfect condition.

Its really sad when you have to deal with stuff like this.

Just thought I'd shared his reply to my email with you all!

Copied from my emails..

Morning, man I'm surprised to hear that, that stuff has been sitting in my garage for ages, it did in fact come off my trek Superfly. it worked perfectly on my bike till I upgraded and took it off. Sorry lad if it got damaged at mine while it was lying around in my spares box, or yours I don’t know, but the goods were in good working order when I took them off. Thanks for the email though.

So what is the seller going to do about the situation?

Have you taken the bike to an lbs to make sure everything is set up properly and it's not user error, or are you 100% sure you know what you are doing in this instance?

Reason why I ask is I have had a few cursing sessions myself in the past only to find out I was doing it all wrong, can be some quite tricky bits on bikes especially on the shifting side of things, googling the problem or asking on thehub normally sets things straight though.
