Spokey Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Don't care who, as long as what is requested is done, though it is very seldom that I take a bike into a shop for work. I prefer "garage spokey" to do the job.
paul_ct Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Funny question, yes I know. What would you do? Will you consider taking your bike to a female / lady bicycle mechanic?Since mechanical work is currently a man's job would you trust a female to work on your bike. If not, why not? It's 2014 not 1814! Yes. If the mechanic (male/female) is no good then I wouldn't go back.
Joeboy69 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 No problem at all. May actually prefer it as she may have to prove herself in the environment and give me better service than I would receive orherwise
Tumbleweed Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Bicycling used to have that "Shop Girl" feature. What happened to that?
Capricorn Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 so carpet: would you? These sorts of questions hardly pop up randomly: what's the context?
Vetseun Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 So Capie, tell me something. How was your ride yesterday?
Falco Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Many people believe that females pay better attention to detail than men. I'm one of them. If that is indeed correct, then women will make better bicycle mechanics than men. After all, there is no physical strength required to fix a bike. As a matter of fact, my own daughter works on her bikes, and does a first class job. None of her bikes have seen a bike shop since the day they were bought.
jcmeyerSS Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I know that my bike Doesn't have a "Do-hickey" or a "Thing-a-majig" so what is she going to fix? Plus dont what to get grease on my kitchen counter.
SwissVan Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 so carpet: would you? These sorts of questions hardly pop up randomly: what's the context?Hehe exactly, would you be prepared to keep your finger nails short.....and dirty? Years ago I remember an appy who decided to quit because he did not like the "stigma" that he felt came with getting his hands dirty. All though personaly I think it was the pp salary that was the real reason.

As a matter of fact, my own daughter works on her bikes, and does a first class job. None of her bikes have seen a bike shop since the day they were bought.Attention to detail is where it's at.I will say however, to be a really top bike mechanic and apply the finest attention to detail one requires quite an immense insight, I have come across some very highly skilled mechanics whom I wouldn't give a distinction to if it was an exam or test. Some home tinkerers tend to think they have it all in the bag and bicycles are pretty simple and easy to work on, yes that is a fact, but it's a different ball game when the real fault finding and the repair application needs to take place. I have heard and seen many people who claim to be wheel builders and how they have mastered this mythical art, yet the wheels they build fall horribly short of exceptional. I think a highly skilled female, and as Falco says with that female touch of attention to detail and as I said with great insight, will make a great bike mechanic. If she is attractive and has a great personality, she could be an absolute asset to any bike shop, just having someone with all those qualities will have a certain allure and word would spread quickly around town.

patches Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Cycle Fusion used to have a female mech. I think her name was Donna.
Mats Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 so carpet: would you? These sorts of questions hardly pop up randomly: what's the context? Yes i will let a female work on my bike.I had a chat with some friends over the weekend and it appeared that some guys are even prepared to drive further to let a lady work on their bike.Should she be hot they are even prepared to hang around the shop a little longer than usual.
Mats Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 So Capie, tell me something. How was your ride yesterday? I was waiting for this fanks my love.To tell you the truth I did not even blow, I never got going. My legs was tired when we rode on Saturday ,a good friend told me it will feel better on Sunday. But NO it was worse. Bad as in Extremely bad. I had a couple of moments when I wanted to sell my bike ... to even give it away to the first guy coming past ... to it will be easier to just die than riding one more km. I eventually got home after 85 long km.
