It always amazes me when I see the drop between saddle and bars on a pro bike setup.

Thanks for pointing that out, that is crazy!

Yes, mine are pretty much level, although I do have rather short legs which contributes to that. The plus side is it is more aero when going downhill as I am lower on the bike!

It's the biggest in the PRO peloton

Maybe Adam Hansen eclipses it

Tommeke's is also super low, combined with the fact that he uses a 140mm stem.

My drop is 8cm, although I ditched the 120mm stem for a 90mm.

The biggest difference is most pro setups don't have any spacers #slamthatstem

No mtn qhubheka?

The Giro organisers are notorious for packing the wildcard picks with Italian teams (well, not notorious - it's understandable, as it's Italy's national race and they want to feature as many Italian riders as possible).

So the Italian Pro Continental teams like Southeast Pro Cycling, Nippo-Vini Fantini and Bardiani CSF get an almost guaranteed spot. Especially when those teams feature some household Italian names like Cunego, Pellizotti, Gatto, Petacchi and Battaglin.

Edit: And since MTN got a spot on the TDF roster, even less reason for RCS Sport to give them special treatment for the Giro as well.

Plus last year the wildcard team of Bardiani won three stages. (Marco Canola Stage 13, Enrico Battaglin Stage 14 & Stefano Pirazzi Stage 17)

To be selected as a wildcard at the Giro you must adhere to the following:

1. Be an Italian team.

2. Only have Italian riders on your Italian team.

3. Have at least 5 Italian riders that have/will be convicting of doping.

Hmm, no Rodriguez or Valverde at this years Giro,.. thats unfortunate as they are always great competitors.

Looks like Betancur is also getting back to form this year, like the old Jose Rujano in good shape he is a formidable competitor.......but sadly he is seldom in good shape! Maybe this is his year.

Indeed, Bardiani is actually a very strong team and I think very worthy of a wild card, RCS Sport marches to their own drum, but have lifted the Giro from a sort of second rate affair 10/15 years ago to a harder and arguably more visually exciting event than the tour today.

Personally I am not that enthused with the tour, I think its over rated, over hyped and devoid of all soul, the Giro is for me anyway, the Grand Tour event of the year.
