The marketing of the CGC Champs is just crazy.  Couple of weeks ago I searched for info to no avail.  It is not surprising that the event is under subscribed.  This leads to the organisers combining groups and ends up with a "hang on and then TT" type of race race.  From someone who has just paid his affiliation fee - big thumbs down!.

Don't know where their office is and won't bother to find out.

It's around the corner from Cyclelab in Fourways out of the way for many people.

Suggestion: why not incorporate provincial champs into one of the local races. At the end of the day, everyone races in their age categories anyway (okay, maybe not the youth categories). The route would change every year, and the infrastructure is already in place.

Example for Gauteng champs.

Year 1 - Fast one

Year 2 - Berge en Dale

Year 3 - Serengheti

Year 4 - Ride for Sight

Year 5 - Carnival City Macsteel

Nice idea. One of the longer races, Carnival City or Ride for Sight. Perhaps even with a section through Suikerbosrand to sort out the riff raff.

Berge en Dale will sort out the "riff raff" in the first 10km - it always does.

Exactly. That's why I am doing barberton rather. Anything is better than racing up k'dorp on cold legs. (or warm legs for that matter).

Ha ha ha. K'dorp is just the start! then its the rolling hills to the top of Sterkfontein hospital hill for the next 5 km! I sometimes want to check myself into that hospital by the time I get there!

Out of interest, who did the Gauteng Champs last year? Apart from the apparent disorganisation, whats it all about? I assume the vets classes will be like a bar fight on a bike...

Did it this year.

Boring race.  Very negative because it is ALL about the placing and it is very individual.

You try and accumulate enough points in order to get your provinicial colors (Over a period of 2 years).  That is ALL provincials are about......But looking back at our (GNC) prize giving, it is not the strong guys over the year that you regularly see on the podium that gets rewarded with colours but rather the flash in the pan, lucky on the day type of person.  Not taking anything away from anyone's accomplishments....not at all.

But I would say your colours must be a system where you reward your provinces best riders.  Not the best on the day in the beginning of the year.  I have my colours already and from experience, I can say the system is not giving the consistent strong/good riders any reward....

But that is just me.

It is a system that was implemented by Jan van Riebeeck and has been upheld and honoured ever since and you will get crucified if you attempt to rebel........ :P  :D

I guess it is just one more reason why road cycling is on the decline together with the whole "I must go collect my piece of paper with a number on 70km from my residence just so that I can compete".

It is easier to go race your buddies (and you gain more respect from your racing peers ;) ) on a route around your house.  Less hustle for sure.  Just pitch up and ride.
