working on a training plan based on the MTB'ers training bible.

Heading inland to visit family for easter and will do some "altitude training"

Last big ride will be 10 April, then just some low intensity rides in the last week.

last ride will be on Wednesday as we are travelling up on Thursday.

I also like to do short intensity rides in the last week leading to an event. I'll take Thursday off and then a 60min leg loosener on the morning of the race. Also traveling up on Thursday already. Enough time for settling in etc. Easter weekend will consist of rides of 4 to 6hrs at the most, with Monday a rest day or something like that.

Got some tips from long distance athletes.

1. change your kit, brush your teeth and wash your face at the halfway mark

2. Remember to eat and drink and lay off the sweet stuff

3. Get out the saddle every 10 to 15 km and stay out for half a kay.

4. Re-apply Chamois cream often.

5. Pull on the pedals every now and again to relieve the pressure caused by your feet contacting the same area for long periods of time.

why do you say stay off the sweet stuff? In my experience sweet stuff helps a lot. The only problem is when you cannot maintain the sugar levels. I usually try to avoid sugar for as long as I can, but I have mates who start taking Gu's after the first hour and then one around the hour. Just asking, not criticising?

As an experiment try and eat only sweet stuff for a 20 hour day. Your body will rebel sooner or later.

You will not be riding at a effort level where you need Gu. You will need to burn real food.

Drink a min of 1.5 Litres ever 2 hours and eat substance foods every 40 mins.

In the evening drink lots of liquid...even at 2am drink lots of liquid.

Its in the next day that it will count...

Some okes live on the sweet stuff (artificial stuff like gels and jellies) and after 150km you can't get it down anymore (from personal experience)

That's why I say rather eat proper food and leave the sweet stuff as a backup.

Hope this makes sense

18 dayzzz just a reminder!!! getting so excited!!!

How do you keep yourself awake from 1am to that 6am stretch? I am not taking music with. hmmm

The fear of falling off your bike should be a good motivator....

We will be doing it as a group (all solo entries) for this exact reason, and the fact that from about 200km any form of motivation and company goes a looong way

We did it on an 19h ride. I know it starts to taste not so nice, but it worked. I get what you are saying about effort level, but that only means that I will have excess energy? Real food will be better I understand that, but if potatoes are the only thing they have? Your body is going to start rejecting carbs aswell at some point. Guess it depends on what you train with? Just dont train with stuff that you wont have access to during the race.

I'm definitely taking music with this time, especially if your doing the Solo, there was no one even close to me last year and I fell a couple of times almost off the bike while almost falling asleep (believe me its not fun)

I also have a friend this time around that is also doing the Solo and we will cycle together to keep each other company during the quite times.

18 days left... Super excited...
