Last few questions from my side...

  1. Does a later start time concern you?

The Elites and Vets ride a longer distance, which means a delayed start so they can complete parts of the route twice. It also gives us time to get all start groups on the road before they return. If they did the 103Km, they would be back in less than 2:15, so it results in bigger groups (also less start groups).

  • Was not affected so cannot comment.  Most people moan because of an EARLY start.....have not heard anything about starting late....
  1. Does that other race the weekend before deter you from doing this race?

Two routes on parts of the same route (although it affects the 65Km more than the longer routes).

  • Nope....not at all.  What does make an excellent argument is this:

I would NOT have ridden that "other" race if Carnival was timed by Racetec.....Then Carnival would have been the choice race to do to get seeding for CTCT and 94.7

  1. Does riding the CTCT influence your decision to ride/not ride this event?
  • Not really but it is good preparation.  Also the tour of Boland has a huge influence....a lot of the VA and VB guys did Carnival for the long ride before they head down to Boland tour.

1) Nope, was actually nice to have an extra 45minutes to sleep late

2) Nope, have done both two years in a row and will continue doing so

3) Nope, great training/racing so close to CTCT

I have cross checked the PPA website with CCMNC entrants from 2014.

I was looking for race index values that would appear in the top 3 of the PPA seeding calculation.
An example shows as follows:

There are 161 people that have the 2014 Carnival City Macsteel results showing on the top 3.

It doesn't mean that this race IS used as a seeding event, but in 2014 one of my club mates received a letter showing the races used to calculate his seeding (or rather his start group) for the 2014 Argus (as it was known then):

The mystery around how the Argus ACTUALLY seeds you, is well, a mystery.

Spinnekop - in your case, your Carnival time wasn't among your 3 fastest races, but then they also put the winner's time as 5:22:53 (WTF?) giving you an index value of 200 - a beeg problem.

1. No, it was actually nice to sleep a bit later.

2. Not at all. It was nice to ride both events 7 days apart. (The wind made Carnival so much harder than R4S)

3. Yes, all the Jan / Feb races are a big part of build up and prep for the Cycletour.

1. Raced VA so not applicable to me.

2. Not at all, The more I can race before CTCT the better. Always do both! (well always do all the races leading up to CTCT)

3. I usually race tandem for CTCT but really like the fact that I can get in extra distance with the VA race so it suits me just fine.

4. I will always try to do a well organised race regardless of start time, route, date. CCMNC=

I wont be riding VA at CTCT(doing tandem) but hes also entered emperors as VA so ill watch out for him there.

Him and I will have a proper mano a mano before the race if he is at Emperors, that's for sure!!

Just finished watching the video footage for the highlights package on DSTV.

The VA's crash will be part of the highlights show. Didn't realise Team Karan Beef had two guys involved, plus the dude in the Sasol kit. He slowed down, touch of wheels... and the crash.

Some good airtime for the Vets this time when it's normally only Elite (woman and men) shown.
