You'll fight with that tork one if you've ever used anything better, but it's head and shoulders above turning your bike upside down on the kitchen floor.

If you can justify the Park one to yourself, your wife or whoever you need to, do it.

Wont need to justify it to myself. But the wife........... :w00t:

This is a stand I made.

The clamp is glued into place and so can't be turned to hold horizontally which might have been preferable but it works like a charm. You could always add a union an then have a clamp that can be rotated.

Have since upgraded to a Giant Anthem X with a dropper putting it over 13kg and it handle the weight without any problems.

Nice Steven but I want somemthing I can move out the garage when I need to wash bike and the garage is already full up so something movable is best for me.

I just cringe at spending 2.5k on something I can throw together myself.

But I do want something that will work when I need it to.

Good timing, I am also looking at getting a stand!.

So far the Park Tool ones seem to come out on top. The PCS-9 is around R1900 and the PCS-10 sits at R2750.

Does anyone have any experience with this model: Ryder promount mechanic stand which is around R1100-R1300

Cheers

So this is exactly what happens on the Tork stand. The front wheel dips like that when you clamp it on the seat post. I see some of you guys say one cant clamp it in the seat post but if you just loosen the clamp slightly to find the "balancing point" it actually works pretty well. I never clamp my bike on the top tube. Having said that though, if you can afford the Park tool stand, get that, its in a different league.

It's the exact same thing as the Tork one, just with a different name on the box.

i have the Torkcraft and as mentioned previously, you can't clamp the bike on the seatpost. This means clamping on the top bar close to the balance point, which is fine for most things except setting up the front derailleur because now you've clamped the inner cable tight...

I am saving up for a proper Park Tools one, not sure which yet

That's pretty weird, I have the same one and can comfortably clamp on the seat tube. Front wheel does dip a little but not that much. Maybe try tightening the knob holding the top tube after reinsterting it again. As for clamping on the Top tube. Silverback's love for Jagwire completely sealed cables makes me happy everytime.....

So do I understand that Torkcraft wont break but doesnt hold the bike level - Which can be solved by removing the front wheel?

But if you got the cash get a parktool one?

Ones I found on google still seem simple enough to build.

Pretty much, or just clamp at balancing point..

But, if I had a choice I would get the Parktool, and probably will when the Torkcraft dies on me. And it will, definitely not built to last forever.

If you have a life of riding bikes in front of you then the Parktool stand is the no brainer option, especially seeing it'll work spot on from day one and be rebuildable in the future. The Tork stand on the other hand will do half the job its designed to do from day one and probably break in a few years at which point the R700 spent is down the drain.

Maybe try do a group buy from somewhere to get the Parktool stands price down, 10-20 people buying one should get the price down by a few hundred?
