I did this ride this year, great ride, but I think it success has gone to the heads of the suits at ASG.

Paid R180 this year and next year the fee for this one day ride is R360, you get some b#llShlt goodie bag that I am sure is all sponsored.

How do you justify a almost 100% price increase.

PREFERENTIAL ENTRY WINDOW FOR 2014 PARTICIPANTS

We have been humbled and are incredibly thankful for the feedback we’ve received after this year's Bestmed Paarl MTB Classic, presented by the City of Drakenstein.

Many riders have said the event is likely to rival the traditional stronghold mass participation MTB events in the Western Cape as far as participant numbers are concerned, but we have decided to limit the event to 1700 riders for next year to try guarantee a solid measure of route experience to all participants without sacrificing their quality of ride.

We are pleased to announce that we’re increasing the entry value package for next year’s event, which takes place on 22 November, with the help of our sister company ASG Sport Solutions.

It brings with it an increase in the entry fee but it also brings a stack of value which we believe will be well received.

The entry fee will be R350 for the 60km ride and R280 for the 30km ride.

For this each rider receives product and goodies valued at well over R600:

1 x High 5 Ultra Light-Weight Racing Bottle

1 x High 5 Tube of X-treme Zero Tabs: ZERO is the UK's leading electrolyte sports drink tab. It produces a clean-tasting and highly refreshing drink with zero calories. The tabs contain light natural flavours with no artificial colours or preservatives. ZERO contains Vitamin C and 5 electrolytes, including sodium, magnesium and potassium.

1 x High 5 Sachet of Advanced Energy Source Fructose Sports Drink. EnergySource is a new generation sports drink. It contains a carbohydrate formulation of maltodextrin and fructose in a ratio of 2:1 and key electrolytes. Many of the world's leading event organisers and Pro athletes choose award-winning EnergySource for success in the toughest endurance events.

2 x Sachets of High 5 Energygel. EnergyGel is smooth with a light consistency and a dash of real juice for a great taste. It's not thick or overly sweet. Easy to open and swallow, each sachet contains 23g of carbohydrate. EnergyGel is award-winning and proven in many of the World's toughest competitions.

1 x Rudy Project designer T-shirt, designed and manufactured in Italy, valued at R220

1x Personalised Number Board

1 x 15% discount voucher on any Rudy Project product redeemable at all Rudy Project stockists. Riders have to print out their confirmation of entry and show it to a Rudy Project dealer to qualify for the discount.

To view a list of dealers visit www.rudyproject.co.za

To find out more about these products visit www.high5online.co.za and www.asgsport.co.za

Besides the various race pack items (all pictured below), Rudy Project T-shirt, Number Board and Rudy Project discount offer, there will again be a free pasta meal (all of them pre-defrosted this time round), a smoothie and the customary free CBC lager as well as a “I conquered Paarl Mountain” medal at the finish line.

Our enquiry line has been a buzz with riders phoning, trying to find out how they can secure an entry for next year.

As a 2014 participant you are receiving this mail exclusively for 2014 entrants who can secure an entry before we open entries to the general public.

2014 riders have until Friday 5 December to secure a preferential entry.

Besides your own entry, every rider who took part this year can enter one other person. The www.asgevents.co.za online entry site makes provision for you to enter more than one rider, but you will only be able to do this up until Friday evening, 5 December at 23:59.

My pet hate is when I go to the bar and they only serve craft beer for R40 a beer. I sometimes don't drink it. Because I think to myself....that is a lot of ZAR for a beer. I could almost buy a set of spacers for that. But they wouldn't be nice spacers. So I end up drinking the beer. But I won't have more than ten. Not because it's R400, and that's all I have, but because after ten craft beers I really need the loo and a whisky. I love whisky.

The race was such a success! To show our appreciation, we'll be doubling the entry fee. Don't worry though, as a 2014 participant you get preferred entry. So hurry and pay!

These kind of posts are very confusing!

Who is holding the gun to your head saying you have to enter ? Oh wait, you want something but cannot afford something. Sounds like an economics lesson of needs and wants, with a bit of supply and demand.

If it grinds a person so much, then dont enter ! Simple ! If it is to expensive, there are lots of other places to ride at HALF the price.

Make peace with your wallet, either way.

And while complaining about the price of things, did you see how 2l of milk costs ?

*edit, apologies feeling grumpy*

Edit edit. if they put on a good race and the demand for entries is there, and they get to market their brand, then that is a good business model. Can one say Cape Epic ?

Best part of the race was Rhebokskloof singletrack, which you can go and ride any day of the week for R30.

Won`t enter this again, lots of other races in the area for under R200.

Yep, interesting pricing model they have... I prefer being charged say R180 for the race and having the option to buy the t-shirt for R220 if I really like it. But lots of people like a proper goodie bag so who knows?

I like how they will also limit entries next year at 1700 when they had about 700 this year, didn't the Munga also limit entries?....  :whistling:  :whistling:

One thing I have noticed is that often you will see a lot of bitching & moaning on thehub about pricing of races, but that is not reflected in the number of people that actually pitch up for the event (including some of the ones who complains the hardest). So with 700 people pitching for a first time event with good feedback I'm not betting against them pulling this off with the high entry fee... (don't think they will make 1700 entrants though)

It's rather amusing to me that you disregarded other people's comments about their apparent lack of respect for the local trails saying that you'll be back next year but here you are whinging about the cost of the event.

So it's ok for race organizers from out of town to exploit and ruin local trails but it's a MAJOR problem to you when they hike up the cost of their event?????

They are giving away items they stock and distribute. Valued at R220 but cost ... R50. Their shirts are lekker, I actually bought one

Craft is 500mm and local is 340mm. The cost per mm is not that much higher
