Thats within easy driving distance (30 minutes tops) of all the trails already mentioned.

If you want a very slow guide around Tokai give me a shout, I basically live there.

Tokai is definitely on the list and I will appreciate that very much, thanks Marko!

For a day out of town you can always give Oak valley a try.  If you want a longer ride then link up Oak Valley with Thandi.  Lebanon trails is just across the road from Oak Valley (well about 5-6km across the road) and also has some nice natural trails.  I personally like Oak Valley as it is a bit of a mix.  Not super technical and mostly short steep climbs.  I am a big guy and don't really like those long climbs.

Hemel and Aarde Valley will also be a nice ride for a day out.  Family(if there is) can hang out in Hermanus or the beach and you can ride.  Then there is also Honingklip on your way to Hermanus, never been there before so cannot comment, but it is also an option.

The one golden rule for mountainbiking in the the Cape in summer is the following: Take enough water. 2 big bottles at least or a hydration pack. Starting your ride before 7 also helps as it is the cool part of the day

WRT to Jonkershoek, I have not ridden there often, and not being a local there, I seem to miss all the good trails and end up only doing one or downhill runs. So if you can go with a local rider, that will go a long way in finding the good trails.

In Tokai the trails are pretty easy to find if you have half a sense of direction.

Doesn't matter where you ride this time of the year in the Cape - the WIND will find you and HURT you!

Wind!!

What wind?

The wind never blows in the Cape over December to March, it's the best time to cycle here. :whistling:

Hairy is going to be quite tired and probably take up 'tour guide' permanently after the holidays, he also offered to show me around from 28th to 02 Jan or so...

The spruit... :whistling:

okay, okay, calm down...I am only kidding.

Tygerberg Hills: Meerendal, Contermans, Hoogekraal only for non-members at R30,00 per trail per person day permit - and remember..NO rogue riding ( this goes for all who are interested to ride our super trails over the festive season...We have some landowners who frown on that sort of behavior and we would be rather miffed at losing some trails as result of some "ingat" MTB'ers...

unless your name is Dick in which case you can do what you want because you're like you know lank important and can't be bothered with all those silly rules....

Jonkershoek - Best to have a guide otherwise you might miss the best trails.  For coffee / food afterwards go to ride-in café (4 kms before you get to Jonkers).

Welvanpas - White route and black route are both awesome and well marked, I wouldn't miss this out.  Go early though as it gets hot.  Lovely coffee shop with good wine.

OakValley - Well marked, nice flowy trail.  Option to include the black sections if you like the technical stuff

Paul Cluver / Thandi / Lebanon. - lots of options.

Contermans and Hoogekraal - 15 min from Blouberg.  Both fun trails that take between 40min to 1 and 1/2 hours to ride depending on your fitness.

Too many trails, too little time.  Enjoy!

He doesn't have to rogue ride remember, he got access to his own private trails where us plebs can't get to....  :whistling:

If your baggies are a bit oversized and the wind get's a hold of it... ask your wife to pick up in Sutherland  :whistling:

"Doesn't matter where you ride this time of the year in the Cape - the WIND will find you and HURT you!" - Not in Jonkershoek, which adds to its already substantial appeal...

I think Welvenpas is also still well protected from the wind?

The day there is no southeaster, beware, because then it heats up big time, especially in Stellenbosch and Wellington! Go early or you are going to do heat training! Take enough water!

I'm in the same boat, coming down end of January for a friend's wedding, decided to stay a week or so to check out the trails. Thread bookmarked for reference

I'm in Stellies for two days. Should I do Jonkershoek both days or Welvanpas for one of them? ( is it close enough ?)

Tx. All advice appreciated
