I ride the area a couple of times week for the last few years but always try stay away from the Blue Hills side and stick to the main trails in Sun Valley, Inanda Base and Minandi.  I watch all pedestrians very carefully because I trust none of them. But I am 115kg of pure muscle so perhaps a little intimidating. Its happening everywhere now, even Cape Town is having big problems with bike jackings. We cant just ride anywhere we want anymore, its totally out of control. Bro, I hope you recover ok and get back on the bike soon.

Bullets, panga's and sticks don't care how big you are, they are going to put a hurt on you no matter what.

As for the whole Blue Hills through to Diepsloot area, there is NO way I ride around there. I've lived in the area for over 20 years, never ridden there once, and never will.

It is a fact hey. Latest stats show western cape is the worst the moment. So yes, quite right. I was hijacked four times in my there so maybe my frame of mind needs to change.

I have a security company and things arent exactly what the perception is.

Good luck with the healing process filipaz. My office is in the area and I often see guys riding around on their own and I think they're incredibly brave.

With all the guys loitering around waiting for piece work, you never know who's the bad apple.

Be careful out there people

We ride past village road every other day. But after I saw about this incident I did not want to ride there this weekend.

It might just be time to change our morning ride route again.

Filipaz you must get well soon.

carpet, i hear you the problem is im sure we can  say nearly every km we all ride/commute has had issues, it does ring closer to home when you know the exact spot but i think there a very few safe spots left, and if there are its only a matter of time before thats lost , group rides IMHO is the safest and even thats not safe

Heal up soon! Please go chat to someone to get your head straight. I'm still paranoid and they didn't even get my bicycle.

+1 post traumatic stress is not just a made up word and you can suffer from it without knowing it.

Some deep and true words here. Why must we give in to the perps? If we avoid a hotspot then it means "they" have won? Not so? We will eventually stay home.

Im not saying take up weapons but why must us as honest people (poepols) give in to these flippen criminals?
