NukeproofPeanut Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hahaha best thread oh the year so far!! So I think in general shouting Strava should be sufficient. But if that does not work, a keep left i'm passing right is probably best assuming there is adequate space. IF you skilled, you should be able to time your passing accordingly! https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=620231261416602
Danger Dassie Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hello OP? .... Hmm, the sound of crickets has never been so loud before.
nigelhicks Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 1 - I don't consider a single element of NF to be technical and rate it as easy and 'manicured' and generally go there for two reasons, distance and convenience. 2 - Whilst going through some single track (known as blue gum single track on strava) 3 - Really? not according to the IMBA 4 - If a rider crashing through the bush to pass you, on manicured, un-technical single track, "nearly"makes you fall over, after a clear and full warning that it was to take place, you shouldn't be riding there. DUDE - Honestly?? 1. - You rant but your initial comment says that you know Northern Farms is easy and manicured - so therefore it is designed to suit the more novice rider. 2. - The piece of trail you refer to is also on the 22km BLUE route defined by Northern Farms website as the following: BEGINNERS ROUTE!!http://www.northernfarm.co.za/images/mb9.jpg Fine it is also part of the longer trail, but as a shared trail, you being the faster rider need to be the one on the look out for slower riders and act in a COURTEOUS manner when passing or attempting to pass 3. - https://www.imba.com/about/rules-trailPlease note the following in the rules:Bicyclists traveling downhill should yield to ones headed uphill, unless the trail is clearly signed for one-way or downhill-only traffic. In general, strive to make each pass a safe and courteous one.So in this vein, you being the faster rider, should also "yield" for the slower riders and only pass when it is safe!I think you forgot about this part of the rules ... 4. - This comment just reiterates the fact that the pass was likely unsafe and non-couteous ... Dude - Strava is not the be all and end all .... http://www.quickmeme.com/img/e7/e7e19e2b39cc1cfb6e2b0d825168a8961c36added59bb6c509b2c85c0b4897b4.jpg

Disylizzy Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I think the OP realised he bit off more than he could handle - Le Hub is a big place, with lots of people that have been around and know people that know people. Especially people that are well liked on here.
gremlin Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Agree Big Ben, If he says "I don't consider a single element of NF to be technical and rate it as easy and 'manicured' why wear knee and elbow guards for a ride at NF
marko35s Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 So I had an incident at Northern Farms this weekend. It was ridiculously busy (new year resolutions in full swing) and I should've just left. Nevertheless, it was late in the morning and I expected most to be returning from the ride.I don't consider a single element of NF to be technical and rate it as easy and 'manicured' and generally go there for two reasons, distance and convenience.Whilst going through some single track (known as blue gum single track on strava) i caught some VERY slow riders and informed them of my intention to overtake as well as on which side to expect me to be coming passed on. This seemed to cause a lot derision in the group of riders, with one of them complaining they "nearly" fell over and one protesting that "it's single track and passing isn't allowed" Really? not according to the IMBAMy thoughts are this. The average mountain biker in this country needs to re-assess their skill levels and be honest with themselves about their skill and ride where applicable (dirt roads). If a rider crashing through the bush to pass you, on manicured, un-technical single track, "nearly"makes you fall over, after a clear and full warning that it was to take place, you shouldn't be riding there. Thoughts and opinions please on what I'm sure is a hornets nest waiting to be kickedIs this you? http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r251/mss-65/E-thug.jpg
porqui Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Bunch of vultures - 11 posts not much meat there!! Shame on you - scarred him for life.
rouxtjie Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Dear OP aka singletrack legend I know the people in question, and you can count your lucky stars that neither her husband nor her brother in law and some other hooligans they normally ride with weren't there...you don't chirp ladies or abuse them because they are screwing up your strava time. Here is the thing though, ol barbs took a photo of you in your full "I am legend" kit so I would suggest riding like the clappers when you see ANY blond on a mtb. She will point you out to us and we will have discuss trail etiquette. PS its a promise, not a threat. See you on the flip side pal

The people that you are attacking are the same people that had the patience to wait for my horribly slow ass when I started riding and I'm sure a bunch of Hubbers have shared the same experiences with them. As for your initial rant, you are riding at NF mate, you say that the average mountain biker needs to assess their skills and ride the appropriate terrain. In that case take your "Rad Pads" and bugger off to thaba trails or any of the other downhill friendly trails we have in Gauteng. Just my 2c
