The vet ladies had a good race too. We need more of them to race though.

There were more vet ladies, but a lot of us didn't hear about the second time change on the morning back to 08:30 so we missed the start.

Shame Megs that's so unfair. With your form you had a REALLY REALLY good chance. My money was on you!

I am sure that planning and hosting these kind of events is not easy.  There is a lot of different people and organisations involved – and no event ever goes 100 % according to plan.  There will always be problems and it is how we react to these problems and issues that count.

I will certainly encourage the kids to cycle - my kids love it and so do we (parents).  People with bad attitude will certainly not discourage my kids from cycling.  They have big ideas about cycling and huge dreams for themselves.

We will be out training this weekend again – preparing for the next big event J

Not the best organised event by any means, but a good hard day racing with the sub vets.

was a though day out and the 4th lap broke me . . .

I feel they could have held it at Stone Haven there in Vanderbijlpark, used the route to Ertjies berg. Quite enough and not a lot of people just out training

Stonehaven and Vaal area might be a bit flat for these racing snakes.  The only up is Ertjies.

As for fat okes like me, the Vaal is hell by itself.  Saturday just showed me how sleg I am!

R&R......I see where you are going with this.

And yes....nothing was done to promote this event.  It is not a "commercial" event where you have people "working" for you to help etc. etc.

Spinnekop.

I am not fighting, nor trying to pick a fight. I needed to know if the event organiser (CGC, I believe) did their due dilligance. I know these events are not commercial, but that is no excuse for a poorly organised event.

If you cant do it properly, say "sorry, we as an organisation do not have the funds nor the manpower to host this event" and let sleeping dogs lie.

Sadly the event this weekend just shows how far our country is behind in terms of sports development, it happens not only in cycling - but all non mainstream sports.

I dropped a huge chunk of cash to send my lighty to Cape town to compete in a national event, and another chunk of cash to send him to participate internationally. ZERO assistanse from the governing body to send SA's top performers to participate at international level.

Perhaps CSA should look at "jury duty" where paid up CSA members all have a turn to marshall at a local event.

I for one will not think twice about something like this, and will happily donate a day in the year to spend in the hot sun (or freezing cold)  at a race waving a flag assisting with cyclists safety.

Not a(n) (well) organised event at all.....

R250 for the road race, and not even a refreshment table at the finish. Not a drop, nada.

Marshalls, what are those? In 30-39 cat we almost got taken out whilst doing 50km/hr + by a motorcyclist that decided to stop and look at the kitty at the lion park.

Having to dodge other poor cyclists at 40-50km/hr was also not fun (for them or us).

Not to mention the race commissaire that couldn't count how many guys were in the break... he apparently only saw 1 when there were 3.

Oh and the TT on saturday, lets not go there shall we.

All in all, I paid nearly R500 to put myself in danger and race the roads that we always train on for free.

Central Gauteng Cycling - FAIL.

You actually have a form of "jury duty" in place.

I can't remember the specifics but if you help out at races (Gauteng) you get points towards your provincial cycling colours.

Certain amount of points over 2 years gets you your colours........

Just imagine if they could have closed the race route for the race on both days. Then we would have had 10 pages already of people moaning because they close the main training area of Gauteng.

Its just common decency people. If you train on that route, stay in the freaken yellow (the actual cycle lane)(yes especially you, triathlete guy riding in the middle of the road at 20km/h with no one else around you) or just keep left. The race organisers did have to pay for the race to take place on that road, so the whole lane is accessable to the guys racing.

If you see there is an unusual high amount of activity, then just stay safe and keep left.
