Been tempted to save some moola for one of these - https://www.game.co.za/game-za/en/All-Game-Categories/Sports-%26-Leisure/Camping-%26-Hiking/Tents-%26-Gazebos/Family-Cabin-Tent-510/p/00707354

I have a 4 person dome tent, but I assume it won't be suitable for our daughter who is just over a year old.

I bought a picnic braai from Spar for the sole purpose of camping, so ek moet 'n plan maak.

Hey

Not sure where you are based.

I'm selling a lot of our camping stuff.  Can offer you an 8 man tent at the same price.  About 2 years old - used about 5 times, so in good nick...

Don't have the photos on this pc but can send them if needed.

Also got a bunch of accessories too if needed...

We dont have a rooftop and have always camped on the ground in either a 3 man hiking tent or the 3m canvas dome tent.Never felt threatened by lion, hyena or ellies.

Had them in and around the campsite often and just gone back to sleep

Its fine

No food in the tents and keep them closed

(Reply) i twice had a hyena come within a metre of my head while sitting around my braai at Crocodile Bridge (Knp). A month later the same(?) animal savaged a teenager in his tent.

Sounds good, I have the cash on hand, although to be honest, I need to keep it for groceries and for my daughter for the month. As I said earlier, I will need to save some cash for a tent going for that price. Thanks for the offer though.

We camp with our girl in a dome tent. They only spend time inside it when sleeping. Rest of the time they run around outside. She was 13 months old when we camped with Het for the first time.

We just take her cot matrass and put it next to our matrass.

I reckon try it with your current tent before spending money on it.

That could work

Pretty much the same

Our boy was 9 months when we took him into CKGR for the first time

Camp cot in the tent was great.Bathed him in a Coleman

Mom kept a close watch as she was always scared a Martial would snaffle him

Kids are fine in the bush.

Those tents are nice but out of experience, managing a caravan park, I would rather go with canvas tents because they are much more durable and much stronger for all weather conditions.

I am sure you've seen lions attack and drag prey away before.

I probably should have more sympathy for humans..but when you put a lion in an enclosure at some point things will happen.

And one is never suppose to turn your back on a lion and run, many people that survived a lion attack said that they just stood their ground because then one doesn't look like such an easy prey.

Ja, the last time I used my dome tent was on New Years 2014, it was peeing with rain and I got rather damp while sleeping the next morning.

I like the idea of a 5 person family tent with a veranda.

There's this offering from Makro - https://www.makro.co.za/sports-and-outdoor/campmaster-safari-dome-505-canvas-tent-olive-green-326882EA

Canvas tent although it's got no veranda, but going for the same price as the cabin tent from Game.

This would be the ultimate - https://www.makro.co.za/sports-and-outdoor/campmaster-campmaster-canvas-combo-dome-3x3-exten-olive-green-324569EA

But I wouldn't be keen to spend 14k on a tent.

I bought the normal canvas 3x3m dome tent and then bought the extension like in the second picture. We were a family of 5 camping together in it and we love it. (Now only a family of 4 since the oldest went to varsity beginning of the year.)

I agree with the comments on canvas tents being much sturdier and waterproof compared to the nylon types. I have 2 canvas dome tents that have been places and done stuff. One is about 12 years old and the other 20 plus.

There is one issue though, besides for the price, that people often overlook, and that is how big and heavy a lump it is when folded up. If your packing space is limited, then ask the salesperson to show you what the tent and all its extra bits looks like folded up in its bag. Pick it up and feel how heavy it is. If you drive something like a double cab or a Defender then it is no issue, but the boot of especially smaller cars can easily be filled up with one of those multi-room canvas tents.

If that is the case, then look at the higher end nylon tents too. Spend the money you will save on better waterproofing and extra storm straps, storm anchors and bigger pegs.

Agree with you, my tent plus the extension folded up takes about 80% of the space in a 5 foot Venter trailer.

Got an average sized hatchback, my daughters pram takes up the boot. I've just checked on the Venter Trailers website, R13703 and some change for their cheapest trailer, and then of course I'll need a tow hitch, which is also a good couple of grand.

If I can fit the tent, with mine and my wife's bags, and of course a bag for our daughter, plus the cooler box and picninc braai, camping chairs, etc, then I'll be sorted.

Small nylon tent then. Of it was me I'd Leave the pram at home, and camp somewhere with braais and leave the mini Braai at home taking just a grid.
