We used the luxury tent option last year and it was great. I gave some feedback to the orginisers to which they did not respond. These were that the tents would add more value if there was a dedicated area close to the tents where guests could relax with the riders. The FNB rider chill zones were great, but not open to visitors and the seating in the general bar area was limited.

The pro's for me were:

Comfortable bed

sufficient packing space

luxury showers and toilets

Close to the race village

More space in your bag as you do not have to lug bedding around

Much more quiet around bed time than the general tented area

The con's were:

No dedicated space for visitors to relax with you

At R1 000 per night extra you have to really see the value in the pro's mentioned.

I am in two minds to whether we should simply book into a hotel in Hermanus for the weekend. I can stay at the Arabella for R4 560 for 2 pax for the 2 nights mentioned. It is a 30 minute drive in and out, but that is really ok for me.

Hmm, I had an entry for 2014 but had to drop out and give it away due to an injury weeks before the race.

Am I now in the database or not? I had a paid entry, a log in and the whole tut before I pulled out... but now I didn't get that magic email ...uhuh

Anybody with some insider info?

Did the race last year with my wife and stayed in the luxury tents. It was definitely worth the money. Only problem is now she has already put in her request for the luxury tents again.

Is it just me or do others feel that we the organisors of Wine2Whales are ripping us off this year with their entry fees. Yeah! It is a great  and well organised event with awesom trails, but if my calculations are correct, there is a 21% increase in the cost of an entry over last year. Come on guys how can you jsutify that. You dont move overnight stops, you have good sponsors, price of fuel is down.  I could justify 10% but 21% plus, no ways  Don't even try the demand is there argument as even that does not justify such and increase. Putting it out of reach of a lot of us average Joe's. Maybe the organisors can respond to this and justify the drastic increase

PS..   Hope my calculations are correct. Maths was never my strong point..

Defender, unfortunately I think that it does really boil down to a supply and demand issue. It is such a good ride, and I reckon many people will pay the premium to participate again. But you never know - maybe the wine farms have upped their costs or maybe they want to make part of the entry fee a charitable contribution.

Would be nice to get #FNB response on this though (also assuming your maths is right!)

Must admit I would really love to do this one but unfortunately with the price tag being so high I will not be able to do it. Unless a corporate sponsors me... but that's also very highly unlikely as I'm not the fastest race snake around

And in reality the price increase hurts twice.

R5500 entry fee plus R5500 shopping voucher for wife = R2000 more cash than last year... sucks

It just makes the massive increase in prize money (R150 000 increase last year) a bit harder to swallow. Very few people care about the prize money or even about the names of the Elites. I will do my 4th this year but I will take notice of any corners that are being cut. The watertables must definitely not shrink any further...
