Hi Boer

Sorry but my Afrikaans is not great so I am replying in English. You say that we should have driven the route and familiarised ourselves with it.

Ok so on the map below would you have chosen the green, yellow or red route for the left hand turn off?

If I was driving the route the day before I would have gone green. As it happens on the day there was no marshall stopping me going down the yellow route so that is the way I went (we drive on the left in this country).

The correct route should have been the red one (on the wrong side of the dual carriageway. How was I supposed to know, that is what marshalls are there for, they should have properly closed off the first two lanes.

OK, my 10 cents worth.  One, boer, you can't always drive the route, and as IanJ said, the route you take is not always the one the organizers wants you to take.

The marshalling (although I did a DNF) was SHOCKING.  The cyclists were stopped at 4 intersections after Slowpoke and amateur picked me up.  I DON'T CARE about the cars, I PAID to do this race and have the cops stop the traffic.  One oke had about 1km between him and the other cyclists, but he was stopped, why couldn't the cop let the cars go while he was still getting to the intersection.

I saw 3 intersections with no cops.  As boer said, marshalls MAY NOT STOP TRAFFIC?  Now why the hell are the cops (1) not there or (2) standing at a small crossing, chatting away, instead of at the big INTERSECTION 50m down the road (don't ask me road names, I are from ve SOUF!)

Enter again, maybe, but the organiser(s) will really have to pull up their socks.  Otherwise I'll do the Monte next year.

O ja, die weer was ***!!!

Ek sien myself as deel van groep twee.

As ek na jou "posting" kyk, is my opinie soos volg:

3.  "Dit is jou eie skuld as jy verkeerd draai."

     Nie noodwendig nie.

5.  "Buitendien as jy so hot is kom re?l dit"

Guest Michelle

According to Owen on Supercycling last night the "riders didn't know which lane to take"... do race organisers really expect us to ride/drive every route beforehand? Confused

still doesn't solve the issue of which of 3 options is the correct one to turn into??? driving the route the day before or even every day for a week before would've had the slip-road as the chosen route. the marshalling indicated the middle option and the correct option for the route was down the "opposing traffic" lane.....

Ewep - let that be a lesson for you roadies/MTB'ers that are confused about which discipline you belong in. Not many MTB'ers are complaining. Next year you know what race to ride! It wasn't perfect but it seems it was better than the road!

Michelle - I must agree with you that even if you did drive the route (never done that myself to be honest) as per the normal 'maps' provided it doesn't show you the little but important details like which lane to turn into depending if the next turn you take is left or right or exactly what the finish 'area' will be like. In this case it wasn't even clear for the MTB guys after their finish where to go to get their medal / juice etc it was hidden behind that white house/tent thing. Also saw a few roadies finishing in the MTB area.

I do pay  for the marshalling to be safe and correct!

BB, I don't even know if I'll do the MTB race.  As I heard, very easy - no technical sections and, even though technically challenged, I would still like some "hair raisers".  So most probably not, will rather do the Bundu thing the day before.

I did last years mtb race and thought it was boring and the distance was also short. I wasn't going to do this one, but couldn't make Bekkers School on Sat as I was in CT so decided the D2D would do as a substitute.

I entered late, paid the appropriate fee and got ready for a30km race. I was told it was more technical than last year. I WAS WRONG!

I also figured they wouldn't make the same mistake with the distance two years in a row. I WAS WRONG!!

I was also under the impression we would race up the spiral and finish on the bridge so saved my legs so I could impress everyone with my uphill sprinting strength. We finished in the car park and silly me thought the medals etc would be inside. I WAS WRONG!!!

The route was a bore., short distance, no goodie bag, no medal ..........forget it, I wont do it again.
