G group didnt come close to catching E-F. The E-F leaders did 02:53 whilst the best time in G was 03:09. I think you just encountered a few stragglers who fell off.

Ah ok makes sense as we caught that E-F bunch pretty early and they werent flying either.

It must have been "Pure Savage" in the main E-F bunch y-day.  :P

I punctured out of A and when I got back there were lots of D,E and F riders around, they couldnt even hold my wheel downwind, eventually rode to the next bunch and there it was even worse, does anybody know what groups those where precisely? also one thing ill never understand is if the funriders' ultimate goal is to improve his/her seeding, why not just harden up and work together and catch the group in front of you, by doing that you improve your fitness also, since you actually have to put your nose in the wind too...  while guys were slaving in the front some fit looking oke sat at the back, 55% HR doing nothing. why race then? youre not helping so your seeding will prob drop and youre not working so rather go out by yourself and get a better workout. Prob gets home and tells his wife how awesome he rode on the tough and windy course

Most guys dont work together. Plenty will sit in as long as possible.

After I took a toilet break yesterday, I rode solo for a bit and caught up to the back end of E/F/G on the R44. I decided to ride on the front for a bit as the pace was pedestrian, hence me catching them. Then I pulled to the left for the next rider to take up some work only to see him slow down to stay behind me.

What really made me laugh was a chap stating im doing too much work on the front, yet nobody wanted to do any work.

Seen this happen in 3 rides so far this year. Why people dont just work together beats me but hey, I enjoy myself in the paincave regardless

Anybody knows who rider F2250 is?

That guy is a beast. Pulled our group of misfits from H group all the way from the Silo's to just after the right turn. Sat infront, only his legs moving, rest of his body motionless.  Best of all, he did not have anything to drink on his bike. I offered him a drink, and he declined. Another rider also offered him a bottle, which he also declined.

Once we got into the sidewind, he started to show signs of fatique and three of us took over the task of battling into the wind. As we picked up guys who fell of the groups infront of us, he got lost in the group, so I dunno how he rode from there.

What is the average speeds guys in C - G odd:

  • Climb up Helshoogte
  • Go over rolling hills
  • Ride on flats

Quite interested as I'm always on my MTB doing a TT type of ride. Can't do 30km/h on flats for too long, and slow to 20km/h on the rolling hills.

Last 10km I probably averaged just under 20km/h, but that was torture into the wind on the drag.

Why people dont just work together beats me ...

Riding a bike is easy, understanding cycling is the challenge. :whistling:

And then I found myself in a group of ±10 trying to get things going when two decided to argue about pacelines and echelons and who was doing it correctly.

Most amateurs don't follow the etiquette of taking a turn in front.

True.

Maybe they're too nervous of getting dropped or something.

Getting dropped is like a terrible nightmare for most amateurs.

I was in the front of G going over helhoogte. According to strava details, the steep section from Kylemore to the Top was 1.9 km @ 19.2 km/h. I am assuming the rest of the guys in the front of G went at a similar speed

Ok, I'm more noob than amature.

So maybe someone can teach me something:

In the 99er, there was 1 guy doing 90% of the pulling, Now, he never "gave up" his position so the only way to help out was to actually cycle from the back up to the front and pull.. But of course now you have to go alot faster first to get up front which don't really benefit the pack as you already wasted energy "catching" the front dude.

So question is .. How do you get someone like that to actually fall back and have a rest and get others todo bit shorter pulls and make whole pack go faster?

Ok, I pulled some segments from Stava for you:

Hells - Average up was 20.7km/h

Rolling hills 31 ish

Flats - Hard to judge due to wind but around 40 ish.

Use strava to check exact speeds all over the route

What also pissed me yesterday when we were riding into a crosswind which was coming across from our right, so when I was pulling in front i would try and ride more to right or middle of the road so that the guys behind me could sit slightly off my left shoulder and form a nice 5 -6 wide group and the rest of the leaches in a bunch behind them.

Then this 1 tosser takes the lead and pulls to the complete left shoulder of the road so he wasnt really helping that much. Couple of us asked him to move to the right but he just refused.

Either he is a noob and doesnt understand crosswinds or he didnt want us to benefit

Its very tricky, it only works if everyone is on the same page, the front guy needs to pull over and soft pedal when his turn is over. Otherwise the group surges to pass him. At one point he will tire enough and you can easyily pull past.

You could chat to him :P

Have a friendly chat in the starting chute

With each ride, there will be more regular faces and pacts can be made with greater ease

With a dozen riders' buy-in, it changes the whole bunch dynamics.

(Just an idea)

It's called guttering.

Burn the matches of those that challenge you and/or not supply them with any benefit of your effort in the wind.

In pure racing, teams would do that to each other.

With bunch riding, it's a bit strange.

Sounds like the same group I was in. Was there a pretty strong rider (not me btw) with a maroon maties top in that group?

Got away in temp group. 4-6 of us manged nice speed till I got dropped at about 60 km. wind was hectic on my own. Eventually made small group of 3 for last 25 km and mange to keep good pace

Happy with 3:32 for my 3 rd race eve. :---)).
