Why You Ride

Time on my own, quality time with my son, good times with mates and being able to instantly blank out all the day to day crap that would otherwise drive you mad.

For sunrises like this morning in Delta Park

Could you believe that sunrise!

Riding out past Fourways towards Dainfern at about 5:45... we just stopped and stared.

Riding is freedom for me, be it on my trusty Road Bike or my Avalanche MTB doing trails the warning label says I should not be doing!

Road Riding

A fresh morning ride starting out cold slowly warming up to the point where you wish it was colder. The feel of your legs wanting to explode trying to beat your best time up Ou Kaapse or Chappies. That is road riding for me, pushing myself to the limit, not worrying about the bike I am on, just riding the snot out of it and pushing the engine (myself) to the limits.

MTB is play time, I push up the hills but its never really a race on the dirt, there it is about enjoying your surroundings, hitting the trails, possibly eating some dirt after a misjudged drop/jump or turn. All adds up to great fun.

Bikes are a great way to explore, you see so much more than if you were driving!

I simply like cycling. If I don't, I get grumpy. I am not fast and I am not very technical. I try to push my limits sometimes and sometimes I just commute. I don't have the flashiest bike but she is pretty descent.  She is barely six months old and I am guilty of having those little nipples intact on my tyres, but my rear tire has almost due for replacement. I just couldn't care to remove them. Sometimes I am on a trail down in the Cape which is very nice and extremely enjoyable, but when I am up in Gauteng working, nothing de-stress me as much as going home on a pavement somewhere while some slaves sit cooking in their cars. Competitions? Not unless I haven't done it before, or to prove a new limit to myself.

I just love cycling.

Been Mountain-biking for years now...And my primary reason is enjoyment...the fitness is a bonus.Being fortunate to live close to the Tokai slopes we get out 4-5 times a week ,I prefer the quite days i keep one an eye out for bird sightings and another on the view.Often we stop just to have a look at what we passing and have been fortunate enough to spot Rooicat and Steenbokkies. we always tell ourselves we do it for pleasure first the day we stop enjoying our rides is the day we pack it in
