Cyclist down in Camps Bay

When the Taxi App Uber made an impact on existing Taxi services there was a clampdown on the "illegal" uber cars and I think 30 odd cars were impounded. ...now where did this pressure come from for the city to act....the Metered Taxi Association of course....well my theory any way...point I'm trying to make is ..the city can act decisively when it wants....and in this case the PPA must apply pressure on the City to utilise it's law enforcement to enforce this 1m law as well as lobby for a minimum sentence should a motorist collide with a cyclist and it's proven the motorists at fault.

Why would the PPA do that when they are more worried about a pissing contest with CSA.

Offsides! What is the real point you are raising with this post? Does the PPA have a visible safe cycling campaign, yes or no? Why is it a stretch to try and figure out how far this campaign reaches in all the directions it does follow?

are you referring to the peeing contest they won and showed they had the bigger............resources....???

Far more effective would be to wear the Stay wider of the rider cycling shirt. There is a 7:01 start group at the Cycle Tour for those riders who applied successfully to join the group AND wear their lumo shirts but every cyclist concerned about cycle safety should wear this shirt when training on the roads.

Buy yours here: https://online.entries.co.za/entries/findperson.aspx?eid=3348

as if wearing this shirt will protect you from being hit from behind - i might as well go to my local witchdotor for muti.

Not taking sides here. I'm saying that while these two fight each other man power is being wasted, when it should be spent on improving our safety.

Condolences to his Family and friends.

This is probably every cyclist worst nightmare.

I was just watching this video below that was posted by my LBS and got cold shivers thinking of it and then got this sad news.

And here's the rub.

PPA is promoting safety through a subcommittee of 5 people, all volunteers with 1 full time campaign manager who is an employee of PPA utilising money earned from the CTCT.

The CSA sanctioning issue is an issue for the CTCTT trustees and has nothing to do with any members of my subcommittee.

But hey, as this is the interwebs, why let the facts get in the way of the story?

And I personally think it's pretty crass trying to link this thread on the completely unnecessary death of a fellow cyclist because a driver did not obey the law to a funding issue involving CSA because you are confused as to who does what.

I agree that it is waste to be distracted by petty fights but lets not forget why that petty fight exists. Its so that the PPA can fulfill its mandate!.

Part of that mandate is cycle safety. CSA brings nothing to the table in terms of PPA fulfilling its mandate.

I'd say the PPA is already successful in terms of cycle safety. the results may not be there yet but that's simply because the inertia of South African bad behavior is very difficult to overcome without a change agent.

Some advocate that legislation is that agent

others advocate that enforcement is that agent

others advocate that change must come from within ourselves

and then there's those who believe the cyclist must first live the change.

there's no right answer because all of the above is needed for change. When you wife drives badly do you tell her that she could have driven better?

When your friends talk and about how fast they drive do you tell them that that practice is dangerous and that its uncool?

if you not willing to put yourself in the unpopular box to promote what's right then you shouldn't be commenting because you'll be arguing the opposite point in the next thread

Ok perhaps my post was worded a bit rudely.

Let me rephrase: How can the people who are supposed to care about cycling and cyclist focus on us when there is corporate issues at play.

I am not trying to link this to the other thread, but was a direct response, perhaps incorrectly so, to a post on this thread.

Lets keep this thread about the fallen cyclist, my apologies if it came across as an attempted detail.

But you can help in the process of changing the mindset of motorists by asking them to protect your space?
