British cyclist Alex Dowsett set a new world hour record by completing 52.937 kilometres at the Manchester Velodrome on Saturday. The 26-year-old Team Movistar rider improved the mark of 52.491km set by Australia’s Rohan Dennis in February.

The 26-year-old Team Movistar rider, who suffers from the rare blood condition haemophilia, improved the mark of 52.491km set by Australia’s Rohan Dennis in February by 446 metres. “The first 30 minutes were easier than I expected, the last 10 minutes were a bit grippy,” said Dowsett.

“I was expecting it to be horrific, but it was just terrible.”

Sweet... I was expecting a bit more but that is a great gauge.

Going to be interesting to see what Sir Twiggy of Wiggindom will do now.

I'd like him to smash it but Rohan and Dowsett are no pretenders. He's do it but I think the 55 predictions are way past the mark.

All things said, it sounds just a bloody 'orrible thing to do.

Ouch... twiggy has designs on his attempt. Big call and if he doesn't pull up to that line then his legacy will look the worst for it and it shouldn't.

"It sounds a bit horrible to say but I could break the record tomorrow. But I don’t just want to break it, I want to put it right up there, as far out of reach as I can,” Wiggins told The Times. “I’ve got 55km in my head and I think it’s realistic. And I think if I do it, it will stand for 20 years.”

“I know I can average 430 watts for an hour, do that tomorrow,” Wiggins said. “The challenge is dealing with the heat, the crowd, pacing yourself early when the crowd are egging you on. Not doing a Gerrard and coming on, booting someone and getting sent off in a minute. It’s about control, lap after lap, for 220 of them.”

The day after Paris-Roubaix I got a bloke to come out and build a greenhouse with heaters in it so I can go on the turbo at 32 degrees and acclimatise for the heat,”

Ohh I like track bikes, they are so sexy. Clean lines and super fast. For me it is the ultimate bike. Have to go back to the track soon.

Sure the warmer it is the faster they go. I think Wiggo will set the standard and it will be years before anyone else comes close. Can't see any of the current crop beat his time incl. Martin and Cancellara.

Wonder if Cancellara will give it a go, he seems to be very off the hour since they combined the versions. He was pumped for the Eddy version only.
