Green cycle lanes in Bree Street misuse

Are the parking bay lines actually painted diagonal in this section? That section looks more like bad planning by the city.

This type of parking seems to be a trend these days. In the area I stay in guys have started parking like this to get more cars in even though the bays are parallel to the road, and now the section of road is narrower.

Here where I work, we have a prvt student res next door and these guys are doing the same thing. The road is now so narrow that our delivery trucks struggle to get through. We have spoken to them and they say they can park like that and want to paint their own bays. Problem is traffic police dont even want to do anything, so I dont see what they gonna do with these guys above

Wheel Clamp them all.

Get a thick chain, the longer the better and feed it through all their wheels and lock it, essentially tying the cars together.

Then set up a GoPro and wait

If only that simple. Public parking area, where there is a 4 story flat that doesnt even have its own parking. How they managed to get the plans approved is beyond me.

Any ways, back to the topic.

Law enforcement and traffic wont do anything about parking in cycle lanes cause its too much paperwork, and basically a nuisance. However if the fines were alot of money then just maybe they would

Don't clamp, tow.

Make it inconvenient for illegal parkers having to spend time at the pound getting their cars back.  Guaranteed to male them think before doing it again.

Just walked past what I think is the hardware store, and an elderly gentleman was standing in the doorway instructing a car that had just parked in the cycle lane that he's not allowed to park there.  So at least it seems that the businesses along that stretch of road understand that it is a dedicated cycle lane and not a parking lane.

Seems like any sort of personal confrontation escalates quickly to threats. We don't need to make more enemies. just educate the motoring public about what is acceptable and what is not.

A smaller sticker (licence disk size) with really sticky glue applied to the driver side window with words to the effect: "Green cycle lanes are for bicycles only. No Parking." would get the message across without confrontation.

Smaller sticker is quick to apply, easy for cyclists to carry and won't impede the driver's ability to see when he does drive off. The sticker is merely a nuisance to remove. If he leaves it, he will read it every time he gets into his car.

For those who don't listen, towing away is the only realistic sanction. Most people ignore parking tickets.

So again I had the time to photograph and post on this forum even though the situation has not changed at all.

This dude saw me stop and pull my phone out and quickly moved his car onto the pavement. Still illegale but at least off the lane.

Then I had a chat with this dude that was quite oblivious to the fact that he was breaking the law. After a quick and blunt explanation as to why he cant park on the lane, he too moved his bakkie.
