Epic race, my first road race and really enjoyed it. Albeit I started at 9:15 on a MTB bike. Managed a 4:28. Hot and windy best blow job ever. I will be back next year on a road bike. Well organized and enjoyed all the characters out there. The wheelie squad epic, ice cream dudes respect , the little people being pulled around by their parents. Yessir I will be back. Getting ready now for the Tough One !

It was my first 947 road. As a matter of fact Ive never been in a road race.

Putting way too many donuts and training apathy aside - I really enjoyed it.

Can you just imagine the organising and admin mammoth task to get this done. Well done!!

I did feel sorry for the crampers and fatties (it takes one to spot one) pushing their bikes the last 5 km. I mean - almost there but not quite. Must be such a damper but hopefully motivation for next year.

I also could not believe how many huffers and puffers there were after just 5 km. This route is quite tought, you need to train. I cant imagine those guys making it through town.

My absolute best moment was when my 4 year old daughter spotted me on Witkoppen. Shame started crying wanted to go fetch her bike and come with. Guess who will be carting a trailer next year?

Overall loved it, great ride, went way too conservatively for a good time but I was not broken at the end.

Anyone use the UberMechanics? My son was one of them .... seems they were quite busy!

Saw more punctures than ever before... all over the place so I can believe they were busy

Did it on mtb ss. 4:30 something, beer and tequila stops included.

Witkoppen, malibongwe and cedar, were soal crushers with the hectic winds. On the ss it felt like i was going no where, could not get enough momemtum to keep the cranks turning at an effective rpm, that hurt.

The rest was super fun!

Stupid question...

Why take the route through Steyn city?  I understand it is possibly a "sponsorship deal - if you want Riversands you need to use Steyn city".  But to me that part of the route is just plain dangerous and should be avoided.  Surely they can re-route not to go through Steyn city?

Or is it simply to allow an opportunity for king Steyn to watch over his village and see all the cyclist enjoying his creation?

Did it on mtb ss.

Only saw one other on a SS MTB, and that was uncle v12.

The heat and wind made a 9:00 start on a SS much tougher than last year.

Very, very nice.

Ended up not doing the 94.7 at all. Had a huge amount of fun at the start/finish venue though. Cycled with my father in-law to the start, were the first to park our bikes in the bike park, lol. Saw my cyclist finish with a very respectable 2.50.31, only issue was our day was done at 9h00, but had to wait to after 12h00 for prize presentation, really... not ideal. Cycled to Langhams, had a couple of beers, cycled to Clans in Douglasdale, had some late lunch and then cycled home. Man, a very successful day indeed.

Next year I am planning to be a passenger or perhaps a driver for one of the race commisaires, they already said I would be more than welcome to do that. Very excited with that. I am a much better supporter than racer/rider. LOL!

Saw two guys on mtb ss in our start group, Surly and a Yeti, didnt see any more after that.

Jip the heat and wind made things tough, at one point the wind was so bad that i was going downhill and had to pedal hard to stay at 30km/h.

How was yours and v12's times?

There was a massive crash in VC going down Kyalami Hill. Does anyone know if the guy who crashed so badly is okay?

Ugly crash that, some clown dropped his bottle and then tried to stop and collect it again I think... as we went through that lane change at kyalami and the bunch panicked trying to avoid, I looked right to see a guy on a black S-Works I think going off the road onto the rocks and dirt and the last thing I heard was his front tyre burst.. not nice at all!

So this was my first 94.7 and my first time cycling over 75km ????

Started in the second last batch

My wonderful husband who would easily have got a sub 3 started with me

Puncture 2km in ????????????

Have never seen so many punctures in my life!!

We were strong and passed people all day but I bonked properly with 15km to go EISH and those were the hardest 15km of the race.

Made it into Steyn City and what a dangerous route choice by this time we had caught A LOT of slow strugglers and my husband was taken out on one of the bends by a lady who clearly was broken.

We tried to get out the road only to be shouted at to move - I lost it so if it was you that I hurled abuse at I'm sorry that is not normally me ????

Very disappointed with my Time (Granted I have not trained in the past 7 weeks as I lost my mom) but with the late start, heat, wind and traffic to ride through I guess I should just be happy that I am healthy and was privileged to ride my bike with my hubby ????

Will be back

I asked the same question last year after there were multiple falls on that exact same speed hump, as well as bleating about the finish being what i would only term as "cynical".

Year later - hump not marked and we are back through Steyn Sh!!!y. It's a sponsor thing - screw the cyclists.

But the 94.7 has  a track record for that - remember the drag around Kyalami race track. The first one with the drag up to Megawatt park, the one where they finished uphill in to the equestrian estate .

FWIW: Its dangerous and its technical as a run in to the finish. This isn't an elite race only - there are lots of very tired rank amateurs out there.

.

It is a few hours work to remove the hump and replace it after the race.

I wonder why they don't do it.

Lucky I didn't get one but my 2 friends had 5 between them. Saw soooo many people standing next to the road. Guessing the lack of rain to clean the roads would be the main culprit.
