Lucky I didn't get one but my 2 friends had 5 between them. Saw soooo many people standing next to the road. Guessing the lack of rain to clean the roads would be the main culprit.

I put some "Stans no tubes" in my road tires, I think it helped me with not getting any punctures.

I cannot get over the fact that the riders in the back groups don't do any slipstreaming or bunch riding. It is as if they want to suffer. Didn't see any attempt other than 2nd lappers (we started 2nd last group).

Very frustrating to say the least. Tried to get a group going here and there, but most people will rather ride at 35km/h by themselves than 34km/h in a group for some reason.

Had a terrible race starting with a sinus infection and just felt weak. From Randburg I was hungry and was looking for some bananas or something at the water tables, nothing but just Coke, Water and Energade. Dragged myself to the finish and was extremely exhausted.

My son also had a bad race and part of the blame needs to go to the organisers for the seeding. As a non racing younster with some decent times he was placed in the racing juniors. He did not know what to expect and was riding at the back of the batch, after 3 km's the race commissionaire told him to get out of the batch and fall back. From there as soon as he want to get into a batch he was told he can not ride there. He punctured in Rosebank and from there on he had enough and just cruised to finish.

Well done to all the guys/gals with their new PB's and the rest like me who a terrible race hard luck but we will be back.

Is it only me or is the Riversands finish venue not as social as Waterfall estate?

Possibly yes with no grass and with the wind like yesterday it was just dust everywhere.

It was such an awesome ride my first ever. I did it in 2:05 I was super excited until I realised that I stopped the clock on my bike computer on 70km mark. Can someone tell me how, when where do I access the action photos of the race.

Yesterday was my 14th and I'm guessing probably the last one - I've enjoyed every one, but I'm not really excited about it anymore, so I suppose it's time for a bit of a break!  I'm also not a great fan of the Steyn City finish, but I guess that's what the organizers have got to work with.

Highlights for me - 2003 when I rode a 2:34, winning time was 2:24 (that was the year the pro's rode 160km I think)

The first year I made the A-bunch

The first year I made the VA bunch

Lows - 2005 when I though I was ****-hot and could ride without training - blew on Witkoppen and was 1:27 behind the winner.  I still get a sick feeling when I see the Starfish foundation orange top I wore that year - I have never worn it since!

Not keeping all my medals and numbers.

Some things which will always stick in my mind:

The original loop past Teazers ( )

The William Nicol climb ( :cursing: )

The Kyalami Mineshaft climb ( )

The Bar-One girls and stand near Douglasdale, which looked like 100 dogs has taken a dump because everyone dropped their chocolates onto the tar.

The first time we rode on the M1 - brilliant

Those stupid stick-on numbers they tried a few years back

Anyone else with some gems?

I personally think this route is the best of them all - I do miss the N14 because I like a good TT, but that's just me.  The Social finish at Kyalami was the best, place to sit, nice shade, beer garden.  I miss that.

Maybe I'll change my mind, but I think that's it for me!

And with helicopters landing it was  a dust bowl by 1 pm. No place to sit and have a beer and a BS with mates.

Then there is the ride home :-).

R25 for a beer! Will be bringing my own cooler box next year.

How awesome was the grass cover lawns some years ago in the beer tent at Waterfall?

For one, the "rookies" never train for it and are intimidated by the groups, my wife is to scared she is going to crash into others she won't even ride in my slip stream.

@Andymann

Did 12 of these and missed some of things you mentioned. Things that stood out for me was:

"Halfway" at Northgate Shopping center good vibe

The climb to the water tower at Honeydew

The dreaded N14 which sometimes was very hot and the road seemed endless...

Any one tried to claim vitality points for this event? Tried this morning, but Discovery claims I have already claimed for this race! Funny

I claimed this morning no problem and has already be added to my active rewards

Ah the Water Tower climb!  I forgot about that bastard.  I do remember though that after the climb there were always guys from that German restaurant with beer and tequila.

Maybe I need to add that to my lows or regrets - never stopping for beer or tequila on the route!

have you already uploaded it to discovery via strava/endomondo  I find sometimes if my tracker upload goes through my points claim for the event on the same day wont.  I have also gone over the 15k points allowed each year for activities. maybe thats the problem?  not sure if 94.7 counts as bonus points.

Thanks, quite sure I have exceeded the 15k points allocation.
