How often do you ride alone?

If you're concerned about being stranded alone in a heap, best backup for a phone is a little whistle. Can blow it for hours without using energy

Most hydration packs actually have a whistle built into the chest strap's clip. It is disconcerting to realise that a person's scream doesn't travel very far out in the open.

You didn't hear my wife after I bought a new pair of MTB shoes the other day.....

What you guys think of ladies riding alone on the trails...yay or nay??

My missus rides alone most of the time, she works abnormal hours, thus most of her training happens alone during the week.

Not really worried about her, although when she does road rides, I am beside myself with worry because od the idjits on the roads.

I will ride dirt roads on my own if I am sure it is a safe area, but I will never ride singletrack or more technical routes on my own. As mike88 mentioned .... must be someone to call for help and in my opinion chances for a fall is much higher on the technical routes

Funny enough my SO is happier if I do Meerendal alone than Spes Bona or other back roads.

It's been a big bone of contention as he goes out on his own (training for the TK).

I carry pepper spray and my bike is insured.

But I really never feel unsafe on Meerendal. It's not very technical but I take it easy on the trickier spots and don't go looking for trouble. I live 3 kms from Meerendal but if it's peak hour then I get "requested" to drive there ;)

I have negotiated riding the corridor from Nitida to Meerendal on my own but also will generally only do that on a weekend when I know there will be other riders on the trail.

I cannot bring myself to do 3 hours on a bike in the gym so have taken up a bit of cross training to ease the need for the longer sessions.

I used to ride with a bunch of awsome mates that have either left the country or stopped riding.

I now ride alone all the time but would like a riding buddy or two but the problem I face is that I am a weekend warrior and have little or no time in the week to train and would feel under pressure to perform with other riders trying to keep up and compare myself and compete rather than just ride for fun.

Im not out there to do the track as fast as possible but rather enjoy my ride, stop as often as I need, enjoy the senery, get a few things wrong here and there and just have fun while at the same time trying to get things right.

I enjoy riding alone so that I can ride my own ride but at the same time a few riding buddies are nice for safety reasons, socialising, networking and moral.

If I can judge from the few spots of Meerendal that I rode, I can understand that you feel safe riding there. But where I stay, the singletrack is built in a secluded area just out of town between bushes and trees. Any female riding there alone is looking for trouble apart from the possibility of falling.

I am super allergic to bee sting. Routes that can not be reached by a vehicle I never do on my own. I do take my shots and pills with me, but sometimes I still need to go to the hospital. I have about 30 minutes to get the shot and pills before it is to late. Not a good thing to go into shock when you are alone.

Guess I should relax abit then because she will mostly be at Meerendal. Its also much more busy since Tokai and Jonkers closed, more eyes and ears. Do you ride a Scott??

I ride alone often.....but have a charged phone on hand all the time.  Only promise I have made to hubby is that I will stay off the steep downlines on my mtb.  (when it is very wet)  But given the choice I would always prefer company.

Nope - I'm on a Specialized. When does your missus usually like to ride?

In the week 90% I ride alone!

It also scares me what would happen if I'm on the trails and had an accident....most of the time I ride 10km on the road to get to local trails and that also scares me as now a days people dont look at the cyclists while driving.

and all that to get training in and those extra few kms
