Grip level on those shoes isn't that bad and they're rather comfortable but if you don't want to ruin those shoes and possibly your shins I wouldn't suggest it.

They are fine for the time being on flats until you gain confidence and change your pedals then you can fit the cleats

Don't worry about it

Sorry Kransie, but they are absolutely not fine on the flats. At all. The soled are hard, uncopromising almost plasticized rubber, which will offer no grip on the pedals whatsoever.

NB !!!

No grip on flats with those shoes - disaster waiting to happen.

Jbtw.. the flats that you have are they proper flats or what we call bear traps?

If bear traps multiply problem X10.

Thanks here is Picture

Swap those out for the flats shoe spez sells. You will be better off than using those on the flats.

Alternately - go clipless  - but that's your call.

I'm more interested in, if you asked the shop if the shoes are suitable for use on flats?

IF they said yes? You better switch shops quick!!

That was what I was trying to find out with the questions on my previous post...

Are these shoes hard enough some people saying it's not stiff enough

Stiffness level 4

So how I see the 'stiffness' thing work is when you use clipless pedals then you need a stiff sole because the actual surface of foot/sole on pedal are very small. Hence a stiff sole will provide foot to stay flat/straight.

With flat pedals the pedals itself are much bigger and the surface in contact with the shoe is much bigger hence 'a stiff sole' isnt that critical.

I must say I feel OP is really over thinking this whole thing.

I imagine from your posts that you don't plan on hitting any big jumps or drops and are more akin to a weekend dirt road warrior.

If these assumption are correct, I'd say just keep the shoes as they will come in use. Buy a nice set of Clipless pedals when the time comes.

In the mean time use any decent flat soled shoes! Heaven's I've done 30K'm rides with Tommys and they were comfortable!

Don't over think this just yet and rather go ride this weekend!
