I'm with the OP. All you's saying "get a life" please send me your cell phone numbers so that I can forward it to Vodacom, MTN and Cell C and tell them that you're interested in a cell phone contract.

I also make noise on social media platforms if I get added to mailing lists and call sheets without my permission. Why should I spend 20 to 30 minutes a week unsubscribing to unsolicited communications and cleaning it out of my inbox? I only use one email (my work email) and I don't want it full of spam mails, so I have to clean it out every week. This takes time.

Hi all,

I'm not happy about something!

I e-mailed Sportsworld just the other day asking about a product - they replied in good time.

End of story right?

No!

Today, I get home to find now that I've been added to their mailing list.

I didn't ask to join it, I didn't have any say in the matter, I was just put on.

Now, I could click the unsubscribe option, but the matter remains, don't put people on your mailing list without asking their permission!

I'm sorry, but if you can't trust a online store to stick to the basic principals of online shopping or privacy, what can you trust them with?

I get enough spam in a day without them adding to the list.

Your point is made and understood about unsolicited and unwanted subscription.

This statement in bold is quite rof hey.

I choose carefully who I liaise with and who I can associate my money with.

Sportsworld is one of the shops out there that I believe is credible.

AND

Have you expressed your concern with them directly yet?

That'll be a cool thing to do.

I'm always amazed at how easily people make some fundamental IT misjudgements. Here are some pointers.

If you're very protective about your email address and only want relevant messages to it than consider the following actions.

Create 3 accounts:

1 - One which is purely for work.

2 - A second that is for home or family use.

3 - A third which is for anything that requires you to subscribe or register for. Mostly unmonitored unless you use it for something specific.

This way you can manage what you willingly select to use when you engage various parties.

As an example I have a work email address that I only engage work related matters on. As soon as I'm sending a personal email I do it from a gmail account I have as my personal email. I also use this as my strava and other meaningful notification mailbox. Everything else that is of no value to me and where I need to register or subscribe in order to get more info, gets the subscription only account. If I'm making an email enquiry about something specific and don't want to receive anything more than a quick price check, I make sure to use the mostly unmonitored account. I'll then keep an eye on that for the next day or so and if I get no response I enquire with someone else.

NB: Everyone who knows me via email or other channels KNOWS that they do not include my work or personal email in ANY marketing campaign or marketing referral effort or I will block them from being able to send me any further correspondance! I send out an email about this annually to confirm this. This is the primary source of SPAM and other unsubscribed mailers!

Well I have only received fantastic service from Sportsworld.

The one e mail that I receive from them every Monday really doesn't bother me at all.

and while you're at it, install ad-block because you're probably also clicking on anything that pops up. basic internet 101 here.

Dude, pretty much every website you go onto nowadays markets directly at you - without your consent.

Google searches are tailored around your history, facebook ads are according to your interests, general site ads are based on you cookies etc etc.

So, just because it doesn't come into your mailbox, doesn't mean they aren't 'spamming' you.

If you are worried about a mail once a week, that you can unsubscribe from, then you got bigger problems on the web.

It seems that because it is sports world that's involved, a few hubbers jump to their defence. The OP isn't questioning sports worlds credibility.

Would the reaction have been the same if the OP got unsolicited mail from a shop that doesn't have the best hub credibility?

I agree that I don't need to opt out if I never opted in in the first place. And why should one have multiple email addresses just to avoid spam.

And why should one have multiple email addresses just to avoid spam.

You don't have to, but then you will have to deal with spam.

Right or wrong, you are going to get unsolicited emails.  Either deal with them on your normal address or have a second one where you don't give a damn what gets sent there.

This is life, we can rant all we want about it, but it's not going to stop.  Simple.

I'm with OP on this one

- would have used dif. thread heading this one a bit of a let down.

Was expecting some major issue like some Pinarello thing.
