Where can I buy CHEAP DURABLE "Dikwiel" commuters bikes?

Hi,

I'm looking at sponsoring a few commuters in our area with durable commuting bikes. I am looking at something like the Buffalo Bike from Qhubeka, but maybe a bit expensive to buy 3 - 4 of these. The bike must be a single speed, no shock, preferably old back-pedal brake kind of bike. Any idea if you can still get these old school "dikwiel" bikes for a bit less than the R2250 Buffalo bike?

Get hold of DiverNick he assists with exactly what you are doing. maybe find out what he needs to complete a couple of bicycles.

My experience with the bikes above, is that the components are really crap. so crap that even with minor adjustment they basically break. The v-brakes are of such a crap quality that i would not trust them at all. even at low speed.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. Yes, I am worried about the cheap rubbish you get on those typical Macro bikes. Gears will always cause trouble for a commuter living in a township without the means to lube a chain. Therefore the SS is more attractive.

Slowbee, please give more detail on the ss chance bike?

I know DiverNick. I am willing to buy a few bikes. He is building more for the guys that cannot afford it.

I will contact Jonene as well.

Thanks all. Really appreciate the feedback!

Nice gesture.

In terms of bikes, I would stay away from the cheap rubbish. Even the "dikwiels" that are sold to the Post Office are absolute rubbish. The problem is that the components are of such poor quality that you start off at a disadvantage.

Qhubeka bikes are fair quality (they sacrifice the "light" part of the "cheap light strong" conundrum)

Maybe also suggest to the recipients that the stump up a portion of the cost, that way they are buying into it too?

Chat to Jonene at Linden Cycles - if anybody can supply - she can - she always has a few in stock too.

This. I was there this morning and theres a couple standing outside.

There are ALWAYS a couple standing outside... they may well be 20 years old... seeing as I have been seeing them there for 20 odd years...

I think you got this bit a mixed up . Those cheap heavy Makro bikers are bomb proof .

They sell, you'll see them on top of buses going to Zim/Zam/Malawi. I know a guy who paid his lobola sending bikes from SA to Zim (and all them were dikwiels and probably from Jonene :)

Avalanche have a single speed commuting bike might be worth looking at

yup, the CHARGE lots of security companies have their guys on this. I would hasten to add that they're probably better specced than the makro raleigh you'll find.

sorry Russian, the pic Shebeen put up! The charge.

Those things are all over Nomzamo! And they really are bomb proof.

A few guys even ride them without brakes and use the old school "throw your tekkies down" as brakes and hope nothing breaks !

Even me be buying one. Best ss EVER !
