Sore Quads

I have had unusually sore quads the last couple of rides which have each been around 75km on MTB. Could this be due perhaps to incorrect saddle height?

What sort of distances were you riding before that?

A substantial increase in distance could also be doing it.

My legs are always painful if I rode hard .Recently I am keeping my heart tempo below 80% all the time and no more painful muscles ,but I am slower

75 kms will give most some delayed onset of muscle soreness

Especially, if you were pushing your limits.

In general, get a bike set-up done if you haven't yet.

And use massage or foam roller and rest with good proteins to get those pistons happy again

listen to this man, he knows his stuff.

make friends with your foam roller, just warn your OH before you get on it, you'll make some suspicious sounding noises when you get on it.

drink some steri stumpi ASAP after your ride (I can recommend a brown of pink one)

So tempting to make a dirty comment on this!

As most have said before bike setup is coming In to play. OR...

If your quads hurt sit back in your seat heels down and use your hammies.

Hammiess hurt sit forward and use your quads!

If neither are working start meditating on rule #5!

totally

seat height or fore aft adjustment or possibly cleats

if you are hurting in one specific area only its usually bike fit

I don't think distance is the issue. I did epic and sani this year with no issues. It started at the monster two weeks back and at the trailseeker bundu bash this weekend. Its strange cause I haven't adjusted the saddle height.

if you have changed nothing on the bike saddle or pedals or shoes .....

and you are maintaining your nutrition and haven't changed much ....

and you are considering the season and keeping your muscles warm before during and after riding ...

and you ride a lot ....

it could be that weird indefinable injury called "overtraining"

The saddle may have slipped without you being aware, or if some LBS / other person may have fiddled with your seat post (with good intentions doing maintenance  ) and put it back at the wrong height.

Old thread, but same topic to discuss...

I have some serious quad recovery issues at this moment (not something I only notice after a long distance on the bike like OP).

Step 1: I think I need to get a foam roller! So is all the same or which one's will you guys recommend? (There are SOOo many different ones on the market; some with bumps, some smooth, long ones etc etc)

Step 2: Do more riding during the week and not just one super long ride over the weekend

A smooth foam roller is painful enough! Cant imagine trying one with bumps on as well.

I try and cycle for an hour 4 times during the week to maintain fitness. They are usually easy rides with a few short intervals. Over weekends it's hammer time!

Works for me.

Get a long one - they cost more but you can do more with it.

I had a conversation with a friend this weekend about sore quads, she was getting them, it didn't make sense in terms of her training effort etc. She started taking citrus soda after her rides, no more sore quads. She did say she gets very acidic. I wouldn't normally respond like this but it was just the timing of the conversation and the post...

But a foam roller is a great investment. I think the smooth ones are the best, just make sure it's the hardest one. It's a waste of time to get a soft one.

Also watching this....

Something I've noticed recently, training and riding...... 2 different animals completely.
