Edge 500 - "Memory Full"

My Edge 500 has been giving me a "memory almost full" display during my second last ride.

Downloading it it to my PC, I noticed that the two rides before this ride did not download / record at all, even though I could see that it was on during the rides. Be that as it may, not a great train smash, was only two shortish Mtb rides.

I then deleted all the rides from the Garmin device, after the successfull download to the PC.

Happy that all was now in order, I went to do the new Bainskloof / Welvanspas route on Sunday. Almost immediately after the start of the ride, a "Memory Full" message popped up. It then happened with regular intervals during the ride.

Downloading the ride to PC, I could see that there was a problem with the data, even though the Distance of the ride, altitude, etc was ballpark, compared to my ride buddy's stats. There is also just straight lines for the altitude and route profile for the last part of the ride.

How do I sort this out, as I did a "Master Reset" of the device, as per suggestion from Garmin Connect, but on start up it immediately gave me a "Memory Almost Full" message.

I checked on the device's memory when cconnected to the PC, and there is no GPX files, only a few FIT files.

So, Gurus of thehubsa, what do I do to get my Garmin working again. Oh ja, it is almost three years old, and never gave any problems before.

Click on the Garmin 500

open garmin folder

open activities folder

Copy all activities from garmin to a folder on your computer (so you have them should you need them)

Delete all activities on your garmin

Should free up memory

The 500 doesn't have an SD card. Only on board memory.

500 does not have SD cards. I think the best way is to check on the PC under history activities files

Ooooops please accept my humblest apologies ....

Garmin offices in Maitland , Cape Town.

they in all likeliness tune him to hand old unit in & they issue a refurbished one for R3k or something ridiculous like that.

"a few fit files" should not cause you to run out of memory unless one of those files is huge, a result of the garmin running for hours non-stop. Whch explains the Op's profile pic, LOL!
