Stripped internal threading

Good morning everybody

This morning I discovered that my rear brake caliper mounting holes' internal thread has completely stripped off... I cannot understand how as I always torque my bolts to the required torque. I bought the frame second hand off the hub, and in attempt at replacing the frame at warranty has got me looking for the seller. I unfortunately lost his number so I cannot contact him. So if you sold a Silverback Syncra 2 frame and Rockshox Revelation fork to some oke in PTA, would you please PM me. I'm really not sure if it will work out, but one can always hope and try.

Regards

Afaik the warranty is only extended to the original owner.

Think the plan is for the original owner to walk back into the shop with the bike and get it replaced

Only if he is willing, if it is possible, and if it agrees with the warranty. If not I shall have to make another plan.

I've been told about inserting a helicoil into the stripped hole. anyone familiar with this?

edit: spelling

Did you not communicate by PM with regard to buying the bike off the hub?  If so your messages and conversation will still be there... so look for the messages and you will get the hub profile of who you bought off... unless they have deleted the profile

Click on messenger top right, then view all messages

Else why not just insert helicoils?

Unfortunately no. The add requested contact via sms or whatsapp, which makes sense as it is a faster method of communication.

Im starting to think the helicoil thing is the best option. having read a little about them, it seems that they are very strong. I just don't know where to get them, or how to insert them properly.

Ummm. Stripped thread for a warranty claim? Good luck with that.

Also, as far as I know the brake caliper adapter has the thread and not the frame.

Post a pic of the rear brake.

Go with a helicoil!

Properly done it will be stronger than the original aluminium threads.

Nut & bolt suppliers can help you.

What size helicoil would you need to put in?  Will there be enough "meat" to accomodate the helicoil.  My first choice would be to tap a 7mm thread and if that does not work maybe look at a helicoil, although I doubt it will be necessary.

I know its a long shot, but one can only try.

Its for a 160 rotor, and the adapter raises the caliper too much, and then the pads barely bite on the rotor. So the calliper is mounted straight into the frame with a washer for a little protection. Could this be my fault?

I am considering this. but how to install them properly is my problem...

Why don't you try to tap a 7mm thread into the stripped 6mm hole in the frame?

Isn't that how the helicoil works?

I'm considering a thread name change.

get a thread inserted, if done properly then it will hold. we have the problem on Opel 2.0L turbo heads and use this method with no issues of turbo's coming lose.

Well with a helicoil you actually need to enlarge the hole big enough to insert the helicoil which contains the required thread size.  That's why I ask will there be enough "meat" on that portion of the frame to accomodate a helicoil.  I imagine that the helicoil would need to be at least 8mm thick, although not sure if 8mm is thick enough to accomodate a 6mm thread.
