I understand the logic behind the whole thing, but honestly the goodie bag for this race was completely useless. I got 3 sachets of Jacobs coffee, a packet of tea and some burger mayonaise........ It will actually make my support for the sponsors even less...

Well done ASG.

I have been very critical of your races in the past.

This one was done perfect.

Also did the VA thing.  Had a lekker jol.

The bike marshals were awesome as always in controlling the bunches and helping with the traffic and safety.

Portapoos was very clean and kept clean throughout the day.  10/10 thank you very much!

Parking was organised and the people helping was there early and knew exactly where to direct.

Thank you for a lekker experience.  I will be back.

I agree. The actual event was great.

Good parking. Good route. Great marshalling in VA!! (the commissaire oomie in the Merc even screamed words of encouragement up some hills "go booyyysss, VASBYT!!!!")

3 areas where they can improve.

Finish line, that was hairy coming into that last 100m at speed.

More loos. I used the trees, but I saw some ladies looking very anxious in long queues.

The seeding issues that the open guys experienced.

Lets see how they do at Sondela this weekend.

ps: LOVE the idea of single numbers for whole series!

Since I started cycling in 2009 I only did the 94.7 and Argus every year. I was sort of "scared" to do the smaller races mainly due to the fact that they are not full road closure.

After doing the R4V and now Sat Clas for the first time this year, I must admit that I find these smaller races much more enjoyable than the bigger ones.

The marshalling also was excellent and not once did I felt unsafe in any of these 2 races.

Oh absolutely. Argus and 947 have become "charity rides" in my books and the smaller ones are the ones you "race".

CnC.....I have been soiling my panties for years now and between the bike shops, organisers and CSA everyone is just content on letting it go on as it is......

ASG.

Take note on this:

You'll create a nice little "niche" series if you combine all your one day classics with regards to seeding.

So you have 6?, 10? races and you get a race number for the year.  Or maybe it gets reviewed after 6 months where you can then get a reseeding number if you did well in the first 3 races.

So I go get my number ONCE and race with it in all your races for the year.

I don't have to drive around like an idiot the day before the race after a stupid piece of paper and you, the organiser, don't have to organise goody bags or personnel or T shirts, nothing.

And I'll enter all 6,10 whatever races if they are classics, count toward seeding (racetec) and are accessible to Gauteng riders.  (local races)

Take it, leave it.  You're choice   ;)

Fantastic Idea. Get a batch entry. Get a number for the year. Win win. Spinnekop for president (all hundred eight and eight eighty) of him.

Unfortunately a number for the year only works for Elites, Licence and Vets... it makes it very difficult for organisers to police open seeded and ensure correct seeding batch numbers.

How will organisers on the day know who is in AL, BL, CL... FL etc when there is nothing on your number for the year?.... or if you start the year in FL, you stay there all year, irrespective of the training and improvements you make in every race you do?

Does this now mean you have self seeding and only get DQ'd if racetec picks up you started earlier than when you should have?

What is to stop everyone going off in AL when there is no way to check if you are in the right batch?  This can only lead to chaos on the road for both cyclist and marshalls alike.

The better option would be for you to be able to download your number and print it yourself for those days you cannot go to collect or are not fussed about the goodie bag.  In this way, you can save on the running around to collect and also the people at the event can be able to do their job and ensure your safety as they can check you are in the right pen before the race

They can and should correlate chip number with start time, not very difficult from a DB point of view. If your racetec chip crosses the line before your seeded start time, boom DQ, simple :) Maybe this is a reason why they have started their own databse for seedings. They should do this anyways in all races, policing at the start shoots doesnt work well.

The idea of self print is also a great one.

The retailers however like the idea of having to walk through their shops to get our number. I always spend a cash when I collect my number, on *** I dont need... but because I'm there I cant help myself ;)

So I have done this for the last 4 races I have done.  Get my number via sms/email, open Libreoffice Write/MS Word, type your number in, make font size big, print, cut to size, save 1h30 driving to pick the number up.  I'm still riding open seeded though. Maybe more likely to be an issue in the licensed groups.

The MTB community showed us roadies it can be done.  And they push THOUSANDS of riders through their system each race.

They do it a lot.  And it works.

Self print will also be an option for sure.

What an enjoyable race, have not done any rides this year yet, but man on man, it was a very good ride. I feel I would be ready for the 94.7, sub 4 hour ride, if all works out, if not, not worries.

I did Hekpoort and survived, not easy if you prefer speed to hills, but I did it. Slowly making quite a lot of improvements in my cycling, the mental block about hills is also disappearing.

Thank you to the guy who had a good party bus going, I stayed with them for about 20k's, very enjoyable and very helpful indeed.

Oh started in BM, 80k's of hills, not too bad, better half was warned by some of the officials that I would be swearing at the finish, however I was chatting and having a great time.

ALL GOOD! Now for the 94.7 and Johannesburg GP, whoop whoop

Just heard back from them. You can still apply for reseeding at number collection, but at a fee of R150.

I am thinking of doing that. What would be the upper range index for VD seeding?

I started in the BL group. About a kilometre up the road 5 or 6 riders went down in front of me. Just thought to ask if anyone knows any of the riders and if they were ok?

As you can see - it was duly noticed. Best response to one of your races in a while. Now PLEASE have sachets of water and people handing them out accurately to the fast groups next week at Sondela. IT WILL BE HOT!!!

Please no - sachets should NEVER be handed out at road races to cyclists on the fly.  I was taken out at 50kph a couple of years ago at ride for sight because of this practice, as someone tried to move across a fast moving bunch to grab one in front of me.

Absolutely! If you need to stop for water at a race, you should have to pullover and stop. The Argus performs this function really well.
