Sani2C riders banned after reporting flasher

Did you miss the news a little while back of a woman that was pulled off a main road in KZN and raped within a couple of metres of the road?

I did this event with my wife a few years back and was uncomfortable at times with unruly kids next to the trail. I think that there is a general lack of respect for ones' personal space and it is difficult to teach that kind of respect.

a lone women running early in the morning on a stretch of road past the howick rubbish dump is very different scenario to a team based mass participation event

Read this years S2C thread and you will see that there were a number of complaints about safety on the last day.

I was in a group with 5 other female riders and felt very uncomfortable. There were numerous sections when it was just just the 2 of us riding. It would only take a few seconds to knock you off your bike and put a knife to your throat.

Edit: it's not only Sani but a few mtb rides lately have made me aware of how vulnerable I am, the Darling Brew ride sticks in my mind. The Burger ride had an incident happen just a few weeks ago.

As has happened so many times on the Hub before, the only way to address an accusation like this is to get on top of it quickly with a proactive and reasoned explanation to all involved.

The worst thing to do is stay silent, which is what Farmer Glen seems to be doing right now. I read this in the Sunday papers and immediately thought: (1) there has to be a reasonable explanation, and (2) where the hell is it?

Farmer Glen needs to speak up quickly to diffuse this situation.

Because right now, he's coming across as an incredibly callous and insensitive man with no regard whatsoever for the (very, very real) threat of sexual assault that SA women have to live with daily. That article paints him as a chop of the worst order, which I'm sure he's not.

Please Farmer Glen, explain your position and clear the air!

Not denying that. My comment was directly in response to the reference of the howick rape...which is a completely different kettle of fish

yip that first paragraph is standard sensationalist south african journalism

I think you are right and it is typical journalism hype, however he has made himself a lot of money and he does fly around in a helicopter at the race so there is a lot of truth in that statement.

There is nothing new here, it happened many years ago at the Duzi Canoe marathon, kids having fun then it gets out of hand and suddenly the ladies feel threatened. Next thing is bike being jacked for the money. It's not pleasant and it needs to be sorted, glad it's not my problem but that's why he gets the big bucks.

He may have a reason for not responding, it will all come out in due course. Good luck to him because the two complaining were expecting action but got banned! What's that all about I wonder.

I am pretty sure there are two sides to this storey as I did see those ladies during the race (I kept my clothes on, promise) and they seemed to be having a tough ride but in good spirits.

In my view the sections that could be dodgy are close to the end of Day 2 and in that soccer field area Day 3. But in today's SA who knows :(

Hopefully all can be resolved.

maybe he's too busy distributing clothes to needy locals

Xmas has come early for @_sani2c race village helpers. Thanks to all those who donated old clothes.

or building schools in the transkei

What a event Imana Wild Ride. Real stuff. 16 years 28 classrooms along the route. MTBikers R special people

My 5 cents worth!

Besides the huge jump in price this year, the mail they sent out was very snotty ie"everyone thinks the free clothing is donated-it isnt!-we pay for it" bla bla bla.

We pay for the entry so why dibble us with all this kind of logistical crap when we wanna ride.

Its like they(sani2c hotshots)are doing us a favour without return???????

FG makes a sh,,,** load of money from this 3 month a year project so he should ensure we(paying riders)feel totally safe throughout the event.

Wake up my boy and smell the money :)
