Long day ahead I think

I agree, I find it difficult to concentrate on running and cycling training (Respect to triathletes!). Running seems to help with the cycling.... except for sitting on my bum for so long.

So, which cyclists with a running problem is having a cycling problem on the 20th of November? ^_^

I am doing my 9th 94.7... Feeling a bit undertrained for a cycling race.

:)

cycling to the start and hoping to do a second lap until my house which is around 65kays in so potentially a 180km which is perfect training for Ironman. But will play it by ear. Wanted to do that last year but the heat and wind made me reconsider.

either way, its a great day out, looking forward to it.

Will also be there, pushing for a sub 3 or thereabouts :)

Did an easy recovery run this morning after Soweto, still feeling it.... is much easier recovering from cycling than running!!

Our running club's gazebo is at the corner of Malibongwe and the right turn towards the Lion Park. If you are in need of beer  :whistling:

I ran on the treadmill last night after Kaapse Hoop, still feeling my quads, that was painful.

I prefer a long ride any day to a long run, recovery is definitely easier.

Yup, cycled twice this year. 1*30km and 1*60km last weekend. It not gonna be great on the bum.

It was only an easy 5kms but felt like it was the last 5kms of Soweto all over again!!

Triumph ISO 3.  Yoh yoh yoh.....

One potential problem, how do I go about my ghosts that is lets say halfway done now, 12mm heel to toe, by adding a Saucony now, which sits at 8mm heel to toe and then altering between them?   I presume that is not recommended, or what is the max difference that one would look at.

My wife is in Brooks Ravenna, for that slight support.   She overpronates a bit and is unstable in the process of doing so, if that makes sense.  But her feet looks worse than with the Nikes before (blisters on the side of the foot, toes and black to nails)   I think the Brooks might be to narrow, she has wide feet.   Also going to look at Saucony guide and the New Balance 860V7.   She does not have any hasstles with her New Balance Trail shoes, nice and wide.

Jackes, a lot depends on yourself and your strike and the condition of your calves, how long you've been running in 12mm drop, etc.

If I were you, take it easy. Take slow shortish and flat runs in the lower drops and gradually get yourself used to it. Maybe you don't have to go as gradual, but rather safe than sorry.

On the other hand you have idiots like me who runs mostly (road and trail) in 4mm drop, but I also have zero drop trail shoes (Altra and Vivobarefoot) and 6mm trail shoes (Sense Pro) and 8mm road shoes (Triumph ISO 2). And tbh, I pick the shoe I need on the day and go.

The weird thing is anything over 8mm kills me! Where most people prefer that. And it's supposed to be more gently on the calves. I got calf injuries like you won't believe in higher drop shoes. Go figure. Apparently my calves are overly stretched.

BTW, what is the "yoh yoh yoh" for? I have the 2's - presuming that's why I got it cheaper, the 3 was coming out... very happy with it. (Except maybe the grey front not being particularly eye-catching!)

Wonder when the 3's land here, as well as when the Guide 10's land...

Definately going for a fit in these.   I see you can save a few rand on the 2's, especially that one colour.  I just think the two hard parts on the sides in the 3, maybe more comfortable than the 3 ties in the 2's.   But only a fit will tell.

Spoke to the LRS where I got the brooks from, I don't understand why nobody likes the New balances as well, SBR also.

Then you get the Mizuno recommendations, whilst I cannot understand that as well.   They feel like you have two planks tied to your feet.

From my personal experience, i have NB 1080V5 and the soft cushy soles made my ankles collapse inwards every time my foot struck. In fact it was so bad and caused such knee pain that SBR thought I was overpronating and needed stability shoes. That was till i put a pair of neutral nimbus shoes on and ran and the video footage showed ZERO pronating. The NB only have 400km on and are lying in my cupboard and go with me to events so that if i come across a runner who forgot his shoes at home i can give him these.

Jackes, top pic is the NYC limited edition. Limited numbers apparently available in some shop in Jhb. Cool thing about those (other than the black and blue upper) is the one shoe has a red and one a green sole! Maybe not everybody's cup of tea, but I'd like that!

What may be of-putting to me is that they apparently changed the ride a bit and made it softer than the 2, which is already quite soft for me. So, hmmm... I might actually try and get myself another set of 2's before they become unobtainable. Esp once on bigger sale once the 3 becomes more readily available!  :whistling:

I have to agree on Mizuno comment. Bought a pair a while ago and they felt great in the shop. It killed my feet. I only use them for those short morning runs, which accumulates the mileage on other shoes! My forefoot was burning like crazy and my entire bottom of my foot got extremely stiff. Nothing over 10k's with them for me.

I loved my 1080v4's! But for the fact that they barely lasted about... 650k's or so. Never used the 5 and the 6 has an extremely soft ride and a heel that feels very loose/unstructured around my heel area. That led me to take the Saucony... and running a second marathon in them on Saturday. He says very blasé... it being only my third marathon ever!

I only saw one pair of those NYC's per picture and did'nt notice the other one.  I see now, very cool colours, but the Blue is also very nice.   What is the going rate for the ISO3 up there?   Goes without saying we don't have them here in the States yet.

The other thing I don't like about that Mizuno's is they still have the leather stitched on toe cap parts, that is a recipe for chaffing in my wife's case at least.

Going to see what I can fit on Sunday onto tender feet, that will show possible problems more.

Good luck for Sat SeaBee

My first pair of running shoes 2 years ago was the entry level Saucony Jazz. I still wear them as casual tekkies and will definitely go back to the brand once i'm tired of the Asics nimbus which might be soon.
