Thankfully comrades is only entrance fee and omtom is only entry and air tickets because my brother is in cape town.. But still adds up.

Running shoes on the other hand end up costing close to 400 bucks a month!

I am struggling so much finding the right shoes. Spent R1899 a few weeks ago and R2400 last week again. Either the shoes feels too small (short = blue toe nail) or too big/long/roomy (same damn size in both US9)...

The latest pair is the NB 880 v7 and although I have only been on two runs with them I can feel the weight difference between them and the NB Zante v3 immediately.

I will give myself another 100km or so on them to decide if I need to look into others again,

New Balance, tend to have a wider toe box than most other shoes, which could cause the "roomy" sensation. I had the 1080's and had the same problem.

Isn't there a sports shoe specialist / sports podiatrist there near you in NZ that can help? If you were still here in Jozi i would have suggests Mike Roscoe at SBR Sport. He helped many of us here.

Hayley, if in doubt, go for the roomy fit. King of roomy fit is Altra - they just fit like a pair of slippers! (But they also have a zero drop, so if you're used to traditional shoes, beware!) Like Scott mentioned, NB has very nice fit as well, except I'm not fond of their "loose heel" feel they have of late. That said, I also have a pair of FF Zante's (thanks yellow ticket sale!) and got used to it quickly once running in them. Though those are quite narrow by NB standards.

But somehow my current go-to shoe brand is Saucony, they just work for me at the moment. Wide enough, low enough drop, not too soft... but that may not be what you require.

As for sizing - I tend to go for about a thumb between my big toe and my shoe end. Most often that ends up with my big toe being just behind that hard bit on the front of the shoes, which can also cause irritation. But again, give your foot space to splay out. This may be my trail running notions that clings to that notion, but I can't run in too narrow a shoe.

So is anyone on here looking at running Karkloof 100?

Any ideas if it is worth having pacers?

Support crews?

multiple shoes or just HTFU and run...

I would love to do a 100 miler one day. It's such a ridiculous challenge. Its definitely on the to-do list.

The Karkloof area looks stunning too. I'm seriously thinking about doing the 50 miler there sometime soonish.

My guess is you'd need a support crew for the daddy race, whether you're going for the win or not, its a seriously long way and you'd (surely?) need a ton of nutrition and different clothing along the way.

My club mates were talking about the Washie the other day... I just cannot see it.

Comrades is already pretty silly stuff, but to do double that

Haha, so we were chatting about Argus this morning... and I went to check the dates. Argus won't be a priority for me with only two weekends between that and Oceans in 2018!

Will likely just cruise it for fun. (On a cycling forum, this comment may get me a warning point!)

An old friend of mine (the same "friend" who got me into endurance sports...) always ran Washie and loved to tell us about the time he fall asleep while running it... and some guy who ran with a portable braai on wheels and was braaing while running.... sounds like stuff where urban legends are made...an event you definitely should consider ????

Would love to do Argus again, but it is just too expensive to go to CT for OMTOM and Argus. I wish it was week apart... Argus on the first weekend of course.

My google skills are letting me down. What is the official elevation gains of the Comrades up run and the down run respectively?
