Hacc Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 After a couple of months of staying pretty healthy I'm suddenly having trouble shaking this sinus/cold/ type of virus...Gatvol of sitting here and cant train..Maybe it is your body telling you to rest.. I would go for a Neurobian shot just to boost the immune system. Andrew Steer and Lexx 2
Andrew Steer Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Current training plan is Tuesday and Thursday 5am I run 6-8kms, Fridays I play squash, Saturday I play Waterpolo and Sunday is usually our long/er run. Will build up to three midweek runs and two weekend runs... distance upped slightly as things progress. Going to be fun juggling mine and the wifes training when things get cranked up a bit...

Mudsimus Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 dont be scared..I ran my first ever 21 last year november...my first ever 42 this year Feb and made it through to may...barring a very frustrating impact injury on my left foot that is still lingering...so take it slowly and do at least one track session on grass a week to lessen the impact on your bodyCan you elaborate on the injury? I think I might have the same.
SwissVan Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I now do my long run in the week and long cycle on weekends...my legs just don't survive both on a weekend. Its the only way to make it all work. This year I have been struggling to train more than 1 discipline... not due to lack of motivation but because I feel to tired or like I have not recovered.... maybes it is age (52) catching up.... no idea how I managed to train for IM a few years ago... and even then my immune system took a knock and I got shingles a month before the event... I've now started using my idt again and will try continue running but not longer than 15 or so for the next few winter months.
Pieter1 Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I also started jogging due to a wrist injury, then it became habit and takes less time. Still like the bike tho. Stupid ankle sprain is keeping me from running. It's been two months already and the tendons or something still hurts. Hitting the gym in the meantime.

What I also like about trail running is you can get to places that you can't get to with a mtb. But a good ride is still flippen awesome!

(And often that's not half of what I take!) Another topic:Lexx, also remember it's (still) that time of year... not sure how bad it is up there, but (the struggle) hay fever is very real! I for one struggle with "allergy sinus" like you won't believe. I found that if I prepare for that in those seasons (March-April is another...) all is well - or at least manageable. It may not be immune system related! Just my 2c... Lexx 1
Stretch Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Can you elaborate on the injury? I think I might have the same. it was a weird pain that occurred on my one foot after about 7km...I physio'd it it and took it easy and pretty much rested for a month...and it went away. Cant remember exactly..but it just above my 3 and 4th toe i think

Luckily its still my resting "relaxing" easy 2 weeks before the Comrades Training starts in Dec.What works for me is the daily routine of saline spray and getting the nose clean as well as gargle some salt water to make sure bacteria cannot breed in your throat. This helps me a lot. BTW, I bought a Salex metered saline spray bottle and from there I filled it with saline you buy per litre (R11) from the pharmacy. Lexx 1
Tubehunter Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) Dropping the Team Vitality gig for 2017 and taking club membership with KWay VOB in Cape Town. Seems like this running thing is growing on me! Heck I've even forgotten how my knees felt after the CT Marathon and I've been making some great improvements in my running stride which are allowing me to add some pain free mileage! I'm even climbing up the leaderboard on the Strava group and putting some of you confirmed Comrades entrants to shame ekse! Gonna keep doing a mileage block for the next couple of weeks and then focus on speed work so that I can attempt to run my fastest 5K in early January which will coincide with my 50th Parkrun and the tool that got me back into this all in the first place! GemmerKat Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I see the Garmin Forerunner 25 (large) is on a nice special at Takealot for R2200 (40% discount). From what I seen on reviews it seems to be a good value for money and with the special at Takealot it seems to be a bargain. Any other good alternatives or is the Forerunner 25 the best buy for the price bracket ? Will use it to record data and while running to monitor my pace, distance, HR.

It was actually just R2k on there a couple weeks back... solid deal, and a solid watch, but I would suggest waiting for the Black Friday sales - will hopefully be some cracking deals tomorrow...

Solid watch, I bought the 15 2 years back, thinking we would just stick to 21's and perhaps marathons. Now we had to buy again, a 230, as we entered for comrades and omtom, but that was the thinking, the 15 has now move on to my wife. So just make sure about what your plans are and if the battery life is fine for that, no problem. Otherwise perhaps buy big enough once!
