Running the 2's at this stage for my long haul runs... Would like to hear feedback. Initial reviews are... wait, tell me what YOU experience!

Initial thoughts on the ISO 3, but this is merely after a 8km jog.

Keep in mind the Brooks Ghosts is 500km old, I still like them a lot (apart from the iritation spot) and I only pick this up with distances towards 20km's and beyond.

The Triumphs definately has more cushioning (comparing against a old shoe, but I'm sure the brooks was less even new)

Triumph has a thicker sole, higher off the ground than the ghosts.

Triumph has a narrower and more pointy toebox than ghosts.  Now I'm sure they will stretch a bit, but they are definately more narrow than the ghosts.  I do have a bit wider feet as well though.

The two ISO lace up system is definately more comfortable for me than the three.

I guess only time will reveal if there is issues as soon as I do the 20 tyre km's again, but initial thoughts is I LIKE!!!

Oh, did I mention that they are damm stunning in real life.

Anybody with experience in Brooks Glycerin 14's?

When I fitted them initially I went with the Ghosts, even though I must admit that the Glycerin ugly ducklings was definately even a better fit than the ghosts?

So, I'm an on-again, off-again runner that's been off for the better part of 18 months. Decided to get back on the horse again with the running now, but my old faithful shoes are going to need replacement.

I've never been a big runner, happy to get to a comfortable 10km twice a week, prefer trail to road, which is reflected in my last choice of shoe, New Balance MT101.

Any ideas on a similar style shoe as a replacement, seeing as NB has discontinued them and doesn't have anything similar in the range currently?

Was thinking Inov8 Trailroc 255?

Jackes, I used to use Glycerins (13 and 14).  They are quite comfy and a good fit to me, I also fitted them and Ghosts back then and they fit better than the Ghosts, but what I have found is that I don't get more than 500km's on them then the cushioning start to diminish and also they start to rub me on my big toe (I have two pairs and they both did the same). Really a pity as they are super comfy for the first couple of hundred km's, but way too expensive to only get 500 km's on.  I switched to Nike Vomero's from them and am happy with them so far.  Hoping to get a bit more km's out of them than the Brooks.

got a little bit of plantar on my left foot..not affecting my running or anything and seems to be responding to an ice bucket after runs and a bit of  rolling with an iced bottle in the evenings.

if it gets worse I'll give it a weeks rest

That's not good Stretch, remember to stretch your calves, its helps when my PF flares up, obviously combined with the Icing you are already doing.

Keep an eye on that... it can get messy if it escalates

My dreaded calf niggle is back too :) Tweaked it at a little adventure type fun run on Sunday. Very strange as it was all very chilled and social

Managed to do 9km pub run on Tues though without too much hassle, but resting it til the weekend. Time to start cranking up the mileage

long story short

i picked up an soleus muscle issue a few months ago. been through physio and currently busy with bio program.

rest works but I'm in training mode for 70.3 and resting is not really an option. injury is manageable but everytime I do "speedwork" or harder efforts the injury gets very eina (struggle to climbs stairs at work).

Sports doc suggested compression socks. I'm not keen to spend 600 on something thats not going to work. I will only wear them after a run.

question is if the really assist with recovery (google results vary) anyone had success with compression socks, specifically as a recovery aid (not as a fashion accessory during runs)

if you ask me they are a massive gimmick. i spent 500 bucks on them for a calf niggle last year..used them a max of 20 times. Both already have a hole in the big toe region (despite having falke socks with hundreds of runs under their belt and no holes). They now lie in my cupboard somewhere as a gentle reminder of the money I wasted on them. If you still feel like you want to buy some - then buy some falke or nike ones for 200 bucks instead of these german imported crud

edit: sorry to hear about the injury

I got some of the R300 Nike ones to assist with a similar issue... it did seem to help a bit initially (maybe even just because it gave the muscles a bit more support), but long term I'd say it wasn't much more than just placebo affect. For recovery they do actually help a bit, and there are at least scientific studies to suggest as much (for what that's worth)

Good luck with the injury, it's a niggly bugger - it's still giving me hassles every now and then. Bio work though has definitely been the biggest aid though in fighting it

I do actually use them for long drives and plane trips occasionally - because I think they do work for blood circulation...but injury prevention and healing??...not so much (imo)

Better circulation = better healing surely?

Injury prevention... beyond giving a bit of support for the muscle and through that actually reducing it's work load, I reckon there is very little effect. If you've got a deficiency/imbalance or actual muscle damage, you're going to get injured with or without them.

PS: My Compression socks are also pretty poked, holes by the big toes. I guess they don't have the 'give' of a sock - I guess that makes sense though.

I have the worst luck. I ended up in Hospital with a bad case of Enteritis. Felt like i was dying, which halted my training for about 2 weeks. So while i am in Hospital, i received a email saying that i have won a entry into the Attakwas Extreme Trail run. Just my luck. And i so wanted to do this race. so bed rest for me until i am 100% again.

If you are only using compressions socks for post run rehab/recovery get some in flight compression socks from dischem, will do the same thing!! (and cheap) http://dischem.co.za/product-view/71609/orthofit-in-flight-socks-black-small
