Thanks guys for the honest asics replies, very interesting both ways.

Still waiting ons Shaper to say what he was on about, but perhaps we should take it private. As I see he is under a wrong impression and no need to derail this.

I  left Asics Nimbus a few years back (after using them for about 10 years)  to find a Lighter Training/Comrades shoe.

Last year I did all my Training (2100kms Jan-29 May) in the Adidas Boston Boosts. Went through 3 pairs (just over 600km each @ around R1400-) by end of April and ran Comrades in the 4th Pair with around 150kms on them.  No problems at all.. they about 245gms to the Nimbus 17 @ 310gms

But I am only about 65kgs and pretty light on my feet.

I race up to  Marathon in the Brooks T7 which is an Out and out racer @only 181gms

I did However Try a lot of Brands to get to the Boosts..

I think I have a problem

Am under the only impression you give... you have probably asked on this forum about at least half a dozen makes of shoes and always saying that you have heard this or that and are they worth considering because of this or that and there are supposed problems with them.... without even going to try the shoes.

Am sure you have a decent pair you run in and are comfy with... then why not run in them and stick with them?

You will see most of us have pretty much stayed with the same shoe and have only changed because of certain circumstance (lighter for racing).... all except Ferret  :whistling:

Are you really going to choose a shoe based on a cycling forum members recommendations without going to try them, get a feel for them, discuss with the sales staff who are runners (if you go to a reputable running shop).  Shoes are specific to an individual as much as a saddle on a bike is... what works for one may not work for you.

And if the cost is the issue... shop in the sales like the rest of us.  Sportsmans have at least 2 if not 3 yellow ticket sales a year where you can pick up running shoes at almost half price.

Maybe less pragmatic and over analyzing and more running.....

I have always been a Pegasus fan. But I did ran in Reebok, when they sponsored the Comrades in 2007 I think. I got a yellow reebok rain jacket with comrades logo on as a price for finishing the comrades in them.

I started on Pegasus... still actually got a pretty much as new pair in the cupboard. My intro into running was not a fair test for any brand though

You did see I live in Bloem and not Joburg right? And seeing that you do follow all my shoes posts, I guess you also saw that we started running last June when we decided we want to do Comrades this year.

Yes, I do my homework BEFORE I go and fit all the shoes in a shop.

I was very happy with my Pegasus, untill a leg asessment that I had to do in Sunninghill because I could do nothing with the one I had in Bloem, showed me that Nikes are too soft.  Which propably contributed to the itb I picked up two years back.

So I changed to Brooks Ghosts 9, which I love, apart for the irritation that I get, which I confirmed on the internet with others as well (as I am the only person in Bloem that I know of with them, so who should I check this with?).   Apart from that I love them, but do I take another chance with them (being my first pair in my comrades and running jouney), with comrades 4 months away, or must I try something else and hopefully pick right?

So I picked Saucony.   Which is also very nice apart from early wear, which only time will tell how that will continue or not.  But I want a cheaper trainer and recon I can keep the saucony's for long runs and marathons.   As I don't want the most expensive if the milleage does not add up as well.  And no, I did NOT pay R2,800 for them and please show me a pair of ISO 2's for R1,200 - R1,500.    Keep in mind I live in Bloem and surely I need to fit the damm shoes before buying them.    As I have never fitted Saucony's before, not even the ISO 3's that I did buy, as no one in bloem has them in stock on the shelves!!!

So, I basicly have 3 ways to analize this.   Read overseas reviews and opinions, trust the shoe salesman that wants to make the sale or trust LOCAL users opinions.    So yes, I value opinions of local people that actually used them more than a salesman opinion.  And yes, my questions are based on hearsay and reviews, what else should it be based on? Apart from buying and trying all the shoes I think might work?

I don't have the money to try out everything and end up with a cupboard like Ferret ( No offense Ferret, I with I had!  hehe)

So if my shoe asking questions in a running thread on a cycling forum bothers you so much, put me on ignore.   If they are out of line, report me to admin.

Whilst R2800 is a fair whack of rondellas for the latest, you could have easily picked up last years models for R1200-1500 at the recent SW yellow ticket sale.... else poobies is probably the cheapest.

You might also be interested to know that Poobies does not have Saucony, not on their website atleast.

My ghosts that they have, is not cheaper than what I can get elsewhere, the new colour.

The old colour that's the one that I want, they do not have my size in stock.

Sweatshop is R100 more expensive than what I paid for my saucony's.

And sheatshop also does not have the old ghosts and are more expensive than what I can get here.

I wish I got that kind of mileage out of my trail shoes. Got just over 300km on my R3000 pair of Salomon SLab Sense Ultras, and about 47km on the SG version. Luckily the latter were refunded. I changed to the Sense Pro 2 And Wings S Lab, hope they last longer.

That was a little uncalled for. Ive changed between about 4 road shoe brands in 6 months and Im still not happy. And Ive asked plenty of annoying questions to everyone. If you don't want to help move on.

You get 900km on a pair of shoes, wow.

The Brooks ghost 9's are on 600 now and they still look VERY good.   Total guess, but I recon they will see 1,000.   I will also report back.

If my feedback or knowledge of a certain product can atleast point someone else in a direction, or show a possible problem and we can help save each other a lot of bucks, why not.   These shoes are damm expensive these days, even on specials.
