Hacc Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I started drinking less coke as the doc believes drinking it is a contributing factor due to the acidity of the coke. Wherever possible I drink water and other energy/carb drinks. Have you tried drinking less water? maybe the amount of intake is the issueDo you eat before you run? I drink a lot of water. Even when not running... about 2 to 3 liters, if not more. I always have a bottle of water with me, no matter where I go. This could be contributing to the problem, I will watch my water intake on Sunday. I always eat before a race - I used to eat mieliepap but the sports dietician said it is high GI and should rather eat oats. So I have switched to oats. fanievb 1
Hacc Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Seem to have finally kicked this effin bug... will pitch up at Vaal cold turkey on Sunday and see how things go - make a call on distance on route and of course keep a close eye on my heart rate. My legs are at least very well rested Good luck for everyone running Sunday, very lekker race... time for that seeding push Good luck Andrew, keep an eye on your heart rate, it will tell you if you are still sick. You should only drink when thirsty it is the healthiest way to keep hydrated and it reduces the risk of exercise-associated hyponatremia. http://www.runnersworld.com/hydration-dehydration/drink-to-thirst
SwissVan Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 You should only drink when thirsty it is the healthiest way to keep hydrated and it reduces the risk of exercise-associated hyponatremia. http://www.runnersworld.com/hydration-dehydration/drink-to-thirst++1When I was doing a lot of triathlons back in the day.... I normally did not drink as much as was recommended and because I read all the parafanalia about how much u should drink I naturally upped my intake and I often got nausea during events. I noticed that every time I was sick it was all fluid coming up.... nothing else. Even then I was still not over drinking by "the" recommended standards... So I just stuck to drinking what I was comfortable with AND increased my food intake. I firmly believe to this day I was drinking to much for my body to handle even tho it was less than the recommended amount and that I was not eating enough. It's a delicate balance to find what works for you and then to maintain that during long distance events and sometimes it still goes wrong, for example if you drink to much just because it's hotter than normal .... _David_ 1

I think I drink too much but it does not cause my nausea as I am drinking the same amount of water as before.
Hacc Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 How was Vaal guys? I started throwing up at 18kms and I decided to rather turn off for the 21km.It was such a humid day and I didn't feel good at all. Yesterday while waiting for my mates to finish the marathon I was totally gutted and felt very sorry for myself. This morning on my way to work I decided it is time to HTFU... starting today. The mind is more powerful than the body when running. I am not going to stop running and I will find the solution to my problem. Tubehunter and ScottCM 2

If I may ask:Do you feel better for a short while after bringing up and what are u bringing up? What kind of eating plan do you follow on the morning and during the event, Have u tried eating small amounts of something solid starting from early on?

Yesterday was the first time I threw up while running. It was only water, no solids.I ate a racefood at 11km and drank rehydrate while passing the first two waterpoints. Maybe I should try eating something different instead of the racefood?

ScottCM Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 Terribly sorry to hear about the persisting problem Hacc. MY HM went better than expected. I was hoping for around the 2Hr mark and ended up with a 1:52:49, 9 seconds slower than Birchwood last year but according to Garmin & Strava the course was 200m longer than HM and i sent myself a new PB by 1min 7Sec. I was totally finished though, threw up in my mouth round the 18km mark but luckily wasn't serious to i just "recycled" it and carried on pushing in the hope of that PB. I must say the organization was great and the marshalls were awesome shaper, Andrew Steer, EmJayZA and 4 others 7
