That's bloody good going - I reckon you are going to have a great Comrades

Asics definitely seem to have scored an own goal with the new Nimbus, I've been a fan of Asics ever since my first pair of 17's, but the new ones just don't seem right and with the price shooting up a ridiculous amount, they've lined themselves up for plenty of flack.

All the forums are full of complaints. Adidas seem to be doing some good things and quite a few people I know have moved to NB 1080's seemlessly with no complaints.

I guess it's a good thing for the market long term, Asics certainly seemed to get a little ahead of themselves - hopefully we all benefit from better shoes and prices heading forward

Yeah, same position as you with Asics. Glad to hear it's not just me. I've just retired my Nimbus 17 and I really felt it was a better shoe than the 19. If I could find another pair I'd snap them up. Seen a lot if people raving about that 1080 as well. Seems to be a great shoe going by the reviews.

Dude... I started running august last year....i was running about 25 ks per week this time last year... Ran my first ever 21 in November... And I managed that sub 9. Most definitely time.

I am currently running only once a week due to injury... So going to be slowly building up to 70 a week by the end of the year... Get fit this year and then hit 200 to 300 km weeks in the new year and you will do it if you can manage a 3:30 to 3:40 marathon

That's encouraging, Stretch, thanks. I managed a 3:25 recently without thrashing myself (was pacing for my wife) but Comrades just seems so daunting. I caught a bit of a wake up call at ODD, which I thought would be a doddle after running such a comfortable marathon but those last few kays were damn tough.

They just feel really clunky. Conversely, my Adidas Boston Boosts actually feel far more comfortable, lighter and responsive. It's just that I don't think I can run 87km in them. I'm considering the Adidas Supernova Boost since it looks like a more cushioned version of the Boston. Being over R1000 less than the Nimbus doesn't hurt either. Good prices at Poobie Naidoo's so I think I'll give them a go.

I Ran the Down last year in the Boston Boosts , they were super, no reason you cant run 87kms in them..

For the Up this year I was planning on gong even lighter and wearing the Adios Boosts.

That's nice to hear. Have you got really good form though? I worry that I develop a bit of a lazy heel strike when I get tired.

Am also not enjoying the Nimbus 19's, find them too wide under foot and am just not gelling with them.  Am spending more time on my shorter runs using my tri noosa 11

hi there, I am no where near comrades or even running a marathon, but following this thread closely.  it is unreal the amount of km's you guys run, not even talking about pace.  I run between 5-10km runs, try to fit in at least 2 a week.  Still bumping up to be able to run a 21.  Not fast at all, just trying to get time in and avoid injury.  thx for the motivation you give

Thanks for your post, Beesrib. We need to be reminded sometimes that the amount of training we do is a lot and that it is not normal  ^_^

My advice to you is to keep going. Concentrate on running a good 10km, gradually increasing to 12km and then 15km. If you can run a comfortable 15km you will be able to run a 21km. The important part is "gradually" - try not to do too much too soon. Running is tough on the body.

Ugh, I bought a pair of Nimbus 19's two weeks ago. It feels very tight even running with it for two weeks now. I see some bad comments about it on the Comrades FB page as well.

What type of problems do you experience with the shoes?

Should I rather go back to 18?

you doing it right...slowly build your body up to being familiar with the miles. I couldn't fathom running a 21..and then i did..then it was a 42...couldn't believe it..then an ultra..and finally comrades. As you progress your body gets in tune.

Dont forget the old rule increases 10% week on week. The sept, oct, dec before my first comrades i was doing 2 or 3 weekly runs and one weekend run  - about 45km a week

The Supernova Glide, or is there more than one "Supernova"?

I'm going to test the Glide sometime, they feel very nice and are priced nicely.   They are just kinda narrow, was my initial thoughts.

It seems like it is going to be the Brooks Ghosts for me this year.   Not impressed with the kms the Saucony Triumph ISO3 is heading for and I get a hot spot under my front foot with the longer kms, exactly there where the most wear is occurring from early days and not at the price they come at.

So the next round will be Ghost Glycerin or Supernova Glides added to the Ghosts.

I have done a fair amount of research on neutral high mileage shoes since deciding to do comrades at the end of last year.

Can't talk about the Nimbus, the reviews seem to speak for themselves.

My experiences:

Nike Pegasus, super comfy up to a marathon.

NB 1080, awesome shoe for ultra's. Big downside is the overlay on the upper causes rubbing on the front of your arch. It is a well documented issue, i have used Kinesio tape to prevent this with great effect.

Adi Supernova Glide Boost 8 - New model is now just called the Supernova. It took me about 100km to break them in/get used to them and now really enjoying them. Doing my first ultra in them on Sunday.

I have a friend that says every new model Asics is heavier and stiffer than the model it replaces. He switched to Nike a few years ago. I'm running in the NB Zante. Hardly an Ultra shoe, but has had no problems so far up to marathon distance. My wife is also using the Zante - previously used Nike Lunarglide and Saucony Guide. She had big problems with blisters until she switched to NB.

Anyway, went for a 10km run this morning and suffered again a bit. Just tired... 340km March and 900km for the year so far.
