Jackes Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 A quick question for the experienced runners here. Think 3 months is enough time to get training in for a half marathon? Not looking to compete, but complete as I am a pretty poor runner and don't have much of a running base. The goal is to complete a Half Ironman distance without any injuries. Can comfortably complete a 5km in 35mins at present. Without a doubt, especially where you are already... 21km-Novice-Training-Programme.pdf21km-Advanced1.pdf shaper, Lexx and EmJayZA 3
Andrew Steer Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Foot seems fine... was just bruising I assume. Quite a relief. Actually had a cool run, played a bit with increasing my stride length, helps a lot on the speed but definitely pushes the body harder Tubehunter, Edgar, Stretch and 3 others 6
Mudsimus Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) So after a 6 month lay off due to injury I finally started running about 3 weeks ago, slowly building up distance. Yesterday about 2 km into what should have been a long run I stepped on a rock and twisted my ankle. All though painfull at first the pain quickly dissapated and I managed to do about 14km before the ankle started to stiffen up. When I took off my shoe I found this. So bloody frustrating. I had a bad sprain last August, the pain subsided a bit and I did a treadmill run a month ago (First "run" since August last year), after that the pain and swelling was back. I went for an x-ray last week and the doc could not see anything so I'll have to go for an MRI. I'm gatvol beyond belief! I just want to run!! Suppose it does not help the injury that I walk between 5 & 10km a day at work. Hope you heal up well.
Tubehunter Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Howzeeet running crew. What's shaking? (Booked myself off the hub with assignments that were looming.) Seems like there are plenty of us doing OMTOM in both versions. Would be interesting to get a view of who is doing which and what their goals are. I'm doing the half as I (fortunately) have not qualified for the ultra... This will be my first OMTOM half. Have 2 Gun Run halfs and the Cape Town Marathon completed. Jackes Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 My wife has been going for her itb treatments 2/3 times a week and she kept up with the strengthening and foam rolling. It has been going really well on up to 20km's. We have been avoiding hills and more specifically downhills due to this, so this morning we did a tester 14kms. She definitely feels the itb the most she has of late on the downhills. So this will be the challenge I guess at OMTOM, on the other sides of the ups. Considering that Comrades is the next goal, will she really bugger it up further if she pushes through and finish OMTOM, the way I understand it you can't really do "more" damage to it, or can you, or is it just the pain factor? And then, what is the option here, do you go with the lots of water and myprodols and just get it done? Normally I will not even consider a pain pill. The other thing this is going to stuff up is my strategy, which I have not really settled on for starters...

Stretch Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 the way I understand it you can't really do "more" damage to it, or can you, or is it just the pain factor? you cant damage the ITB..but the pain is a result of it rubbing against the knee...which will affect her gait and cause possible muscle damage elsewhere. If she can pull through the pain then fine..but I have been struck by that pain before and its not nice. Nothing wrong with Myprodols in moderation. Take one just before you startt and another about ten minutes before chappies
Stretch Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 im doing my first OMTOM ultra..looking forward to it Beesrib, Lexx, Tubehunter and 1 other 4
CobusV Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 3rd and last OMTOM ultra for me. My plan is to run with my wife up to Houtbay Cemetery (42km) and then push on through from there. Hoping for 5:00-5:15. Hacc and Tubehunter 2
Stretch Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 plan is for a 5...but i am taking it as a training run...so if its 5:15 no stress Tubehunter 1
