Mntboy Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Took off way to fast.. As you do in this race it seems. Got blown up chappies going up.. And got blown up chappies again going down! Went through marathon at 3:30..10 minutes too fast and had a horrible last 14. Mostly walked up Constantia Nek... But i did run every now and then just to help me mentally. Constantia road is ghastly with its camber! Ran the last ten on a run downhill walk uphill strategy... Bit still happy with my 4:50.Nice one Stretch! Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk Stretch 1
Messier87 Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Ooph - that was far. My furthest ever. My wind was out over Constantia Neck and as Stretch said that camber on the other side nearly had me thinking my ankles won't make it. Once the road leveled out my eating strategy paid of and I was surprised how well it went from there. Aimed for a 5:30 and got a 5:21 ish. Not sure as my watch managed to pause itself after a sheepish cateye/tar meeting. Only noticed after 200-300m and resumed so time and distance a bit off for me. Another thing that struck me was how nice it is for random strangers supporting on the side to be able to read your name on your number and call you by name to cheer you on. I swear every time that happened the next 20 steps are easier! The support was incredible today! Then there was a guy on the road that was running his 30th ultra today. Wow. Respect! I think the organisers did a brilliant job. Maybe more fluids at the end for each finisher, otherwise everything I encountered was top notch. Well done to all that was there today whether supporting or running! Andrew Steer, Tubehunter and Stretch 3
Jackes Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Our first distance past 42 was indeed something to remember. Everything went so smooth and patiently until Hout Bay. Then we experienced a long and painful death up Constantia. So much that we gave up on finishing in time when the 7 hour bus passed us halfway up. We walked the while Constantia and somehow was able to run again on the other side, catching and passing that group. We made up so much time that we could've walked the last three and made it relaxingly and enjoying the moment. Thankfully there was no sign of my wife's itb, a true miracle, but I felt mine before Chappies and it killed me to the end. It is totally BUGGERED, I hardly walk. All in all, WHAT a race and organising!!! So sad to hear about Caroline, hopefully it was more precaution for Comrades Andrew Steer, Tubehunter, Mr Winter and 3 others 6

Jackes Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 MIRACLE.... NOPE.... Haha. Thanks a lot for that as well! ???? But she even felt it during yesterdays4km, today nothing. I will need stretches and miracles now... Andrew Steer 1
Andrew Steer Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Well done Stretch. And everyone else. Wind was a bugger in parts, but luckily we weren't on our bikes. The first half is really fast, I started pretty much at the back and held back but was still easily under 6min/km for the first half. The race really does start at chappies. Ran walked it and felt good, tried to avoid the camber as much as possible, I think this race is about the worst I've done in that regards. The run down Chappies took its toll, really hurt my legs. Walked Constantia as planned and ran comfortably enough til the finish except the odd steep parts and hit my goal of a sub 6 comfortably enough. Still battling to get my Suunto to sync, but should have my run up some time tonight hopefully. Should be around 5:50 run time... I crossed the line at 5:55.At the airport already heading home... next stop Comrades Stretch, Tubehunter, Mr Winter and 3 others 6
Andrew Steer Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 And race really well organized and seriously cool vibes on route. Our pres maybe incites racism and division at every step, but today was the rainbow nation at its finest ???????? Messier87, shaper, Stretch and 1 other 4
Stretch Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Well done to everyone.. It was really tough out there today..I was hurting just as much as comrades..I think the advantage of comrades is that you have a proper taper... Whereas this is just like a training run... Well that's what I'm telling myself?
Stretch Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 And race really well organized and seriously cool vibes on route. Our pres maybe incites racism and division at every step, but today was the rainbow nation at its finest ????????Absolutely..We had Afrikaners Zulus Xhosas and Englishmen all running together the whole route and we were chirping throughout the morning... Was such a lekker feeling... And one of the reasons i run Lexx and Andrew Steer 2
V12man Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Haha. Thanks a lot for that as well! ???? But she even felt it during yesterdays4km, today nothing. I will need stretches and miracles now...Follow the same protocol... you will be fine. Andrew Steer 1
Imploder Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Anyone know what happened with Worstmann this year? I thought she was entered to run this year.

Hopefully more precautionary than bad. She said beforehand she chose comrades this year and wasn't going to race omtom, being so close to each other this year Imploder 1
Mntboy Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Hamstring injury after 11km. Hopefully more precautionary than bad. She said beforehand she chose comrades this year and wasn't going to race omtom, being so close to each other this yearJa that was my understanding from Caroline herself when they had her do some commentary work on the ladies race. Hoping she'll be ready for Comrades! Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk
Jackes Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 And the amount of falling over the cateyes, despite the endless warnings are just plain ridiculous....
Stretch Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Still waiting for some feedback from some of the team...Haac? Cobusv? Who else? Andrew Steer 1
