Finally feeling the benefits of the taper as the fatigue is slowly creeping out of my legs. Ran Parkrun yesterday after a pretty light week (mostly short speed work). I've been trying to figure out how to shave off the 9 seconds I needed to break under my long-term goal time. I ended up beating my PB by 43 seconds ????. Got a shock when I checked my watch at the finish.

I had a massive sinus infection - well, still have some remnants of it - over the weekend. Skipped my Jonkershoek, there was just no way I could even lift my head, let alone do that race. But on Sunday I actually did the CT12 - was good fun. But I really struggled with the sinusses. Still happy with the time (56m) since I was hoping to just break the hour mark.

So it seems I am doing taper deluxe..   Got advised to do NOTHING this two weeks as my itb just does'nt want to improve enough even with physio twice a week.   I feel it from 5km's onwards.

So NOTHING it is then.    Damm frustrating.

I'm in the same boat.  Woke up this morning with a fever and a sore throat. Don't know if I should phone the Doctor today or try and medicate it myself... Very frustrating as I doubled my vitamin intake last week. I guess running in the cold weather is a bad idea.

Go Doctor... will give you a weeks course to clear it, probably antibiotics and sinus tablets.  You still have time.  I have tried the self medication route before a few of my ironman events, doesn't clear it fully.  Now if I have any sign of flu like symptoms 7-10 days before a race will get something from the Doc.

If you have done all the training you wont loose much fitness in the next 2 weeks by laying off, all the hard kms have been done... and will be better to rest and physio the ITB

Should I attempt the 90 mins slow run this weekend, see how it goes and stop as soon as I feel the itb?  Or really stick to the NOTHING at all?

Good run SeaBee! Well done dude!

I had a very frustrating run at CT12 that started out well for the first third and by the 5th K noticed a burning sensation in my lower left leg on the outside edge. By 6 kays it was difficult to ignore so I had to stop and try figure out a stretch of some sort. Was forced to change tactics and figure out a pace to try run to get to the finish without it flaring. Came in 5 minutes slower than last years finish which was a little disappointing, given that my running is much stronger this year, but happy to have finally figured out what the issue is!

For any of you with high foot arches, who are embarking on speed training and possibly have sprained an ankle in the past, this is very informative!

Rest is good! I'm quite tempted to put the feet up for these last two weeks  :whistling:
