That's actually a nice option, Shaper. I'm using a Forerunner 235 and I'm wondering if running two Connect IQ apps will drain the battery over the course of Comrades so if I can consolidate the most important features then that would be ideal.

Also wondering on the battery drain even one of these data fields has.

Anybody got some insight?

I have been using one data field for months now and there was no change in battery usage whatsoever. I cannot see running two being a major issue...but that new one shaper posted will actually serve to cover both purposes.

I have plugged in some details for saturdays run and will see how it performs.

For general training use i would revert back to the other one that was mentioed

Really *** final training run..HR way up... Legs tired.. Knees sore.... My watch said 3.5 days recovery at the end!!!

Well it's gonna be 6 days!.. With 2 massage sessions

In truth I think my dad doing in for an op on Monday had a lot to do with it.

Almost the same experience for me. Ran a 8 km club run. Today is my last day of antibiotics and my heart rate was thru the roof. [emoji22] I am feeling nervous now. I guess lots of sleep and rest are in order for the next week.

For what it's worth.... known a few springbok level water polo players and one thing about them all, they could run very fast for some reason... despite spending minimum time running they could easily run 4 min km for short 4 or 5 km events.

Genetics.... you either have them or you don't....

so i trialed race screen this weekend

not sure I am going to use it on race day - because of the following

If you set a race distance, Race Screen also predicts your finish time, assuming you maintain your current pace (not your average pace) until the end.

I would prefer it to look at average pace..especially with a race like comrades.

will investigate virtual pacer to see how it works

It is finally Comrades week!! I am feeling calm at the moment. All the official club Comrades get-togethers are all done: Comrades Braai, Last club run, Comrades Church service. It is only the pasta evening this week. No running for me this week until Saturday morning. (Still got some sniffles and I am feeling very paranoid at the moment...)

I read somewhere (I think it was Runner's World) that when you hit the wall or starts suffering in a race, you must think of one specific moment in your training where you suffered and persevered. It will help you to motivate yourself.

The moment I will be thinking about on Sunday when I probably go up Inchanga is the RAC 60km long run. It wasn't a race but I felt like giving up at 30km and I pushed thru and finished the long run.

What will be your HTFU training memory on Sunday?

Agree generally yes

But funny enough they could not cycle very welll...did a duathlon against them once or twice and got klapped on the first run by them but returned the compliment on the bike by enough to just stay ahead of them on the last run.... only just luckily it was a short run...

Once you go past about 2 or 3 minutes,  the influence of training starts to have a greater effect - but - without genetics you cannot run 3min/km.... for 1, 2, 5, 10, 21 or 42km.... with the right genetics you can run 3min/km - without serious training for 1km, with minor training for 2 - 5, and longer with more training...

Genetics plays a far bigger role in sports than most people want to admit to...

Could also have a lot to do with duration of the event. They are more conditioned to short intense exercise and the a quick recovery and then go again. They are essentially 400m/800m runners. Sprinters with some limited requirement for endurance

The longer more consistent energy requirement may have got the better of them.

if you put them on a 21KM or longer run you probably would see a simialr effect.

Last run this evening... just an easy 6km leg check

Had a lekker hour leg massage on Friday, seems to have put all my little niggles to bed nicely.

Didn't run over the weekend but did get in a combined 50 000 steps over Sat and Sun - had a water point at the JURA trail run on Sat and my daughters birthday party on Sunday. All good time in the legs I say.

Feeling ready (for my modest objectives), just desperately trying to avoid the endless snot noses that seem to be around at the moment. My daughter's included

Had some fun yesterday guessing where we would be on Sunday as the hours ticked by.

Hope everyone's feeling ready... it's time to rest those legs, bring on Sunday
