Paddaman Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) Don't know how you run on that path after the 36/50km split just before the descent. I must have rolled ankles and stub toes every 10m. I have a lot of practice to do. There was a lot of walking being done. I call it the conveyor belt. Get into the place line and follow the guy in front. If he is walking then it is a sign for me to walk as well........The Magalies 36km is almost unique in that it has only 1 km jeep track in the entire route. The rest is single track, foot paths, river beds and flagged routes. This does not allow for "roadies" to open up on the gravel roads to make up for lost time. The descents were brutal and took all the power out of my legs. I am still trying to recover from the race. Edited August 16, 2017 by Paddaman Lexx 1
Lexx Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 So when my wife saw the pics of last years race and how rainy and cold it was, she said no chance in hell she is going to stay in a tent.. So I had to cancel the tent options. ( ok, I didn't tell her how cold it gets up there )I then took Paddamans advise and book a double room at Amphitheatre Backpackers. It looks pretty amazing there. So wifey is happy means I am happy..

Pieter1 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 That's it. Thanks, also on the site now.Dealing with Stuart is such a pleasure. What did you end up getting? The Ultraspire gear is really pretty good. I have a few of the belts and bottles. Verry lekker.
CobusV Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Now that I have entered this thing I need to get the admin squared away. I ran the Magalies 36 on Saturday - have the blisters to prove it - and used my CamelBak Octane pack which wasn't ideal. It bounces around way too much. Anybody got any thoughts between the Salomon vests and the Raidlight vests? Already dealt with the fact that this is going to be a costly exercise. Also views on capacity: will the 3 or 5 Lt versions be large enough to take the compulsory kit or do I need to look at the 10lt + versions?http://www.trailhub.co.za/topic/68-hydration-packs/ Edgar 1
Edgar Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Also looking at the Raidlight and the Ultimate Direction SJ Dealing with Stuart is such a pleasure.
